Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modern era, having at least a single interest is necessary for everyone such as toddlers, young people and retired person. According to my opinion, Having hobby is great but, sometime for an individuals hobbies will be change based on the age or time.

To begin with, around the age of 15, children have multiple hobbies such as reading and singing because, they are not familiar with some other trends like mobile games or gymnasium. Once they grow up and learn and explore various things, by this way sometimes their hobbie are getting change or addition of new hobbies. Additionally, at a time of retirement, seniors may leave their interest in past and, for that major contributing factor is age. For instance, a survey from long term care illustrates that 75% of the seniors likes to play football, driving a car and singing a song but, due to age and some disabilities no one can follow their interest but they can enjoy it by watchhig in TV or by discussing with their friends. By this way, they could enjoy their life and, some time share their knowledge to adults because of their experience.

On the other hand, some hobbies are nice for the health such as gymnasium and yoga. It gives numerous health benefits and fitness. In recent years, a significant number of young adults join physical activity classes to gain their health in good way and, make it best hobby for their life. For example, Health Canada article demonstrate that 30% seniors are very healthy and fit in their daily routine just because of their one hobby - gymnassium.

Taking everything into account, I believe having at least one hobby is too good and, It also helps to make an individual life better.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing an opinion on whether various age groups should have at least one hobby and supports this with reasons and examples. The writer presents a clear position that hobbies are beneficial but can change over time based on age and life stages. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or repetitive, such as the discussion surrounding retirement and senior citizens. While examples are provided, such as surveys or statistics regarding seniors and health, the development of these points tends to generalise rather than fully elaborate. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed, earning a solid Band 6.0 according to the descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs discussing age-related changes and health benefits, and concluding with a summary. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', 'On the other hand', and 'Taking everything into account' are used to structure the text, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Referencing is occasionally slightly unclear or clumsy, such as 'by this way sometimes their hobbie are getting change'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother. This corresponds well to a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common phrases like 'modern era', 'contributing factor', and 'significant number'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form throughout the text, such as 'Having hobby' instead of 'Having a hobby', 'hobbie are getting change' instead of 'hobbies change', 'watchhig in TV' instead of 'watching TV', and 'gain their health in good way' instead of 'improve their health'. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the score to a Band 5.5 as they reflect frequent lexical slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain errors. Examples of grammatical errors include missing articles ('having at least a single interest', 'having hobby'), incorrect preposition usage ('at a time of retirement'), and subject-verb agreement or tense issues ('75% of the seniors likes', 'article demonstrate'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but commas are occasionally misplaced. Because the errors occur frequently across different sentence structures and can occasionally cause the reader slight difficulty, the performance aligns with Band 5.5.
