Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary epoch, hobbies are considered as therepies. People believe it is very essential for young generation, working professtionals and retired individuals to have minimum one hobby. I completely agree with statement because hobbies help people to relieve their stress and encourage them to be creative.

To begin with, the major benfits of having a hobby is a relieve from stress. Nowadays people are having very hectic schedules, eventually their lives have becoming very stressfull. Hobbies work as stress reliever for people who are suffering from anxiety due to their work, personal peoblems or from other reasons. When a person spend time to do something for pleasure, it helps that particular person to forget all the tensions and calm the mind. For example, many studies have proven that gardening as a hobby helped a large number of people to come out of depression.

Furthermore, hobbies help people to be creative. While doing something new for pleasure people generate different and unique ideas and then they try to implement those thoughts in reality. In addition to this sometimes people learn about their unknown skills which they were not aware previously, such as dancing or singing. When people try to do something as hobbyand later they found they are really good in that skill. For instance, it often has seen many famous artists started their career as hobby but with the time they coverted their hobby into profession.

In conclusion, every age group of society should have at least one hobby because hobbies help to reduce stress and make people more thoughtful.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear, well-supported position that hobbies are essential for people across all life stages. The introduction outlines the main arguments, focusing on stress relief and creativity. These points are then extended into separate body paragraphs with relevant examples, such as gardening for depression and artists turning hobbies into careers. While the reasoning is logical and the task is adequately answered, some points slightly lack the depth and nuance expected at higher bands, such as tailoring the discussion more distinctively to the four specific groups mentioned in the prompt (children, young adults, working people, and the retired). Nevertheless, the core requirements of Task Achievement are met solidly, earning a band score of 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a clear overall progression with a logical layout, including a standard introduction, two distinct body paragraphs focusing on separate themes, and a brief conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although some mechanical transitions ('In addition to this sometimes') indicate a slightly formulaic approach. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Referencing is mostly clear, though occasional mechanical errors in cohesion prevent the text from achieving a higher band. Overall, the organizational structure is coherent and easily navigable, warranting a band score of 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'contemporary epoch', 'professionals', 'hectic schedules', and 'anxiety'. However, there are several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the essay, such as 'therepies' instead of 'therapies', 'professtionals', 'benfits', 'stressfull', 'peoblems', 'coverted' instead of 'converted', and 'hobbyand'. While these lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips occur regularly, they do not seriously impede communication since the reader can easily deduce the intended meaning. Because the vocabulary range is sufficient for the prompt despite these errors, a band score of 6.0 is appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and relative clauses ('When a person spend time to do something...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors relating to subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, including 'When a person spend', 'lives have becoming', 'it often has seen', and missing articles. Punctuation is also slightly neglected in places, such as missing commas after introductory phrases. Although these errors are noticeable and detract from grammatical control, the complex structures are generally understandable and communication is rarely impeded. Balancing the variety of structures against the frequency of errors yields a band score of 5.5.
