Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that , a hobbie is important for everyone and every age gourp for a longer life happiness. I strongly agree with this view point as having hobbie can improve your health, contribute to development of skills which are important in later stages of life and maintain your social circle. In this essay wil will discuss the main reasons of my opinion.

To begin with, one of the major reason is to maintain health and balance mental peace, in this mordern world, life is very busy and people often are not able to fetch out time for their relaxation, having a hobbie will contribute to break out this chain of regular life and to do someting extra which you like and results in mental relaxation. For instance, many individuals noadays play evening cricket after their office time, which help them to be physically fit and divert their mind from busy life at work. Therefore, resulting in relaxation of mind and soul.

Furthermore, having a hobbie plays a vital role in having and maintaining a social life at every age group. This is important due to the fact that social life plays an important role in development of individual. From a childhood social circle which teaches how to make friends and work in a group, to older age socialisation of avioding being in solitude. having a hobbie make sure your social circle is there with you. For example, we see many elderly group in parks enjoying yoga with their goups, this allows them to break their solitude and live a happy life in older ages. This example show importance of maintaining social life in later stage of life for being happy.

To conclude, having a hobbie is good for a healthy life, mental peace and maintain a social life which help you life a better life. Therefore, my opinion strongly supports the idea of having a hobbie in life, extenting to all age groups from childhood to old age people. An extra activity in life for happy future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position on whether people of all ages need a hobby and supporting it with relevant arguments and examples. The writer explores how hobbies benefit health, skill development, and social circles across different life stages, from childhood to old age. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some ideas could be extended further with deeper explanation. For instance, the point regarding skill development mentioned in the introduction is not fully elaborated in the body paragraphs. Overall, the task is well addressed, fulfilling the criteria for a Band 6.5 or solid 6.0, which rounds to a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as health benefits in paragraph two and social benefits in paragraph three. However, there are some issues with cohesion and referencing. For example, the transitional phrase 'In this essay wil will discuss' contains a typo and feels slightly formulaic. Additionally, referencing like 'This example show importance' lacks a proper article. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical, but the logical progression is generally maintained throughout, placing it firmly at a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate for the task, including phrases like 'social circle', 'physically fit', and 'break their solitude'. However, there are frequent spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'hobbie' (consistently misspelled), 'gourp', 'mordern', 'fetch out time', 'noadays', and 'extenting'. Despite these errors, the meaning is rarely impeded, and the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the intended ideas. This performance aligns well with the Band 5.5 descriptors, where noticeable spelling and word-choice errors persist.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure with clauses introduced by 'due to the fact that' and 'which help them'. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and punctuation issues, including comma splices and missing articles (e.g., 'It is often argued that , a hobbie...', 'many elderly group', 'This example show'). Run-on sentences also occur, such as the second sentence of the second paragraph. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band, making Band 5.5 an accurate reflection of grammatical control.
