Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people argue that it is essential for children, young adult, working class people and also the retireers to have an hobby. This is to enable them have an extra earning for themselves through their hobby, and to help them stay healthy. This essay will discuss extensively and provide my opinon about the context with relevants examples.
To begin, the idea of encouraging everyone from small to big to obtain an hobby is as a result of not being totally dependent on one pattern of earning, but to have more channels at which one can earn from and be totally independents on their own. For instance when i was younger, i developed interest in garment making and at a later age of my life, i was pushed to learn what i had flare on and to my greatest surprised i began earning from my hobby shortly after i was enrolled in that field.
Moreso, the reason why people encourage others to have an hobby is because they can fall back to what gives them joy when they suddenly stop earning, either because they lost their job or because they have retired. For that reason the hobby can be a source of another income.
In contrast, having an hobby can relief one from being depress, as over time psychologist have recounted how people with hobby get out of depression easily because they have something that keeps them excited either after a busy and stressful week at office or at school. Generally, having something that keeps one away from idleness has been proven medically to contribute to the overall wellness of humans.
Conclusively, this essay highlighted some great benefits of having an hobby as another source of income, and also as a way to stay off depression and stress.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether people across different life stages should have a hobby, presenting reasons such as financial diversification, enjoyment, and mental health benefits. The writer takes a clear position and supports it with personal examples, such as learning garment making. However, some ideas are slightly repetitive or under-developed, particularly regarding the different age groups mentioned in the prompt (children, young adults, working people, and the retired). While working adults and retirees are touched upon, children and young adults are not fully explored in terms of their specific needs. Overall, the task is addressed satisfactorily, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal transitions, such as 'To begin', 'Moreso', 'In contrast', and 'Conclusively'. However, some of these transitions feel a bit mechanical or are misused (for instance, 'In contrast' introduces a point that actually supports the main thesis rather than presenting a contrasting idea). Paragraphing is utilised adequately, though the body paragraphs are somewhat brief and could be better linked to ensure a smoother logical progression throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'financial diversification' (implied), 'stressful', and 'wellness'. However, there are notable word choice, form, and spelling errors throughout the text. Examples include 'young adult' instead of 'young adults', 'retireers' instead of 'retirees', 'an hobby' (repeated error with articles), 'flare' instead of 'flair', 'surprised' instead of 'surprise', and 'depress' instead of 'depression'. These errors do not impede communication, but they clearly restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5 or 6.0. Given the frequency of basic morphological slips, a Band 6.0 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'This essay will discuss extensively and provide my opinon about the context with relevants examples.' Grammatical control is variable. There are several structural and agreement errors, including 'enable them have' instead of 'enable them to have', 'independents on their own', 'obtain an hobby', and 'psychologist have recounted' instead of 'psychologists have recounted'. Punctuation and article usage also need refinement. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the writing from reaching Band 7.
