Student answer (Band 5.0)

This is important for juveniles, youngsters, working persons and the old citizens to have at least one hobby. In my opinion, people should have many hobbies due to some reasons that will be discussed in the upcoming paragraphs.

Commencing with the main reasons which justifies that why they should have many hobbies instead of one.The most prominent one is that they should not feel bore if everyone have many hobbies because with one one hobby they can not stay happy all the time but with many hobbies they will have many things to do in their life. Apart from this, if they are alone nothing to do but their one of any hobby they can do something and feel good. Same as for senior citizens because senior citizens retired they mostly time of the are free so if they have many hobbies instead of one their time will pass perfectly.

However, many juveniles have hobbies of playing video games eating junk food that hobbies are not good making their study worse and their health also which is not a good hobby for them youngsters have hobbies like to chill all the day and not focus on their future, working people 9 to 5 job but after the work their hobbies like watchinng TV or go out with friends which they do not give time to family and that is not a good hobby.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the importance of hobbies for different age groups, specifically arguing that having multiple hobbies is beneficial. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive, particularly regarding how hobbies prevent boredom. Furthermore, the response falls short of the word count requirement, containing only 233 words compared to the minimum of 250 words. This under-length impacts the overall fullness of the task response. While a position is presented, the lack of word count and underdeveloped supporting examples prevent it from reaching a higher band. Overall, it satisfies the basic premise of the task but remains limited in scope and execution.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is divided into an introduction and three body paragraphs, showing an attempt at paragraphing. However, logical progression is frequently disrupted by run-on sentences and poor cohesive referencing. For instance, the transition between sentences such as 'Apart from this, if they are alone nothing to do but their one of any hobby they can do something and feel good' is confusing and lacks clear logical links. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively, such as 'Commencing with the main reasons which justifies that why they should have many hobbies', which hinders the flow of reading and overall coherence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive throughout the essay. Words like 'important', 'hobbies', 'many', and 'good' are overused. There are noticeable lexical inadequacies and awkward word choices, such as 'juveniles' to refer generally to children, 'old citizens', and phrases like 'chill all the day'. Spelling and word formation errors also appear, such as 'watchinng' and 'justifies that why'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic meaning, the lack of precision and limited range place it within the lower bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing contains a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple or poorly constructed complex sentences that often result in grammatical errors. There are significant issues with sentence boundaries, run-on sentences, and missing verbs, as seen in 'The most prominent one is that they should not feel bore if everyone have many hobbies'. Subject-verb agreement errors are also present, such as 'everyone have' and 'senior citizens retired they mostly time of the are free'. Punctuation is faulty, particularly with missing full stops or commas, which causes frequent strain for the reader.
