Student answer (Band 7.0)
In this hectic world, it is really necessary to have a hobby to keep life exciting and entertaining. It helps to reduce stress and adding hobbies into daily routine would make leisure time more joyful. Spending time on personal favourite activities can increase one’s creativity and productivity. Thus, I totally agree with the statement that people from every age group should have at least one hobby to stay active and to keep their mind sharp.
Everyone should explore different activities to find the one that they end up like the most. The primary reason behind this is that generally people get tired by following the same schedule everyday. Schools, workplaces, and old age homes can become monotonous if a person has to encounter it everyday. Hence, investing time on hobbies would definitely divert the mind from stressful periods of time from those places. Additionally, hobbies can keep people’s brain lively as people spend their time enthusiastically performing those tasks. For example, reading books for retired people can help distract their attention from feelings of loneliness and isolation, whereas playing sports can keep children’s physical fitness strong and flexible. High intensive sports can help build a kid's stamina at the early stage of their life, as sports can become very interesting sometimes and winning those games requires high dedication and intensity.
Another benefit of having at least one hobby is that people can treat that hobby as a backup career plan or extra side income. Having interest in music or art can help individuals to earn money by selling paintings or producing songs. People have a great chance of converting hobbies into their primary profession as spending time on their own work is more effective than working for employees. For example, many famous athletes started their journey in totally different careers, and hobbies and curiosity made their dreams into reality. Therefore, spending time on hobbies such as reading, cooking, or drawing in leisure time can become highly beneficial as they provide career opportunities as well as bring entertainment.
To conclude, spending free time on hobbies has far better benefits than wasting time on social media or playing online games. I believe this is a positive development because its long-term benefits are more significant as helps people to stay active and use their brain in interesting activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the task prompt, discussing why having a hobby is important for different age groups (children, working people, retired individuals). The writer takes a clear and well-developed position right from the introductory paragraph, stating full agreement with the prompt. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as reading books for retired individuals and playing sports for children. The body paragraphs effectively explore both psychological benefits, like stress reduction and mental sharpness, and practical benefits, such as potential career opportunities. The response meets all the requirements of a Band 7 or Band 8 level for Task Achievement through its thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, moving smoothly from the introduction to the psychological benefits, the career-oriented benefits, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Thus', 'The primary reason behind this', 'Additionally', and 'Another benefit' are used effectively to guide the reader through the arguments, although some referencing could be slightly more polished. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with distinct breaks for each main idea. The overall progression of ideas is easy to follow, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The student uses an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary appropriate for general tasks, including less common items such as 'monotonous', 'isolation', 'enthusiastically', and 'profession'. There are some minor lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'end up like the most' instead of 'enjoy the most', and 'High intensive sports' instead of 'High-intensity sports'. However, the vocabulary is varied enough to allow precise communication of ideas, and spelling is generally accurate. The lexical resource demonstrates competent usage, comfortably fitting into the Band 6.5 to 7 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The writer displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating conditional clauses, gerund phrases, and relative clauses effectively (e.g., 'Spending time on personal favourite activities can increase one’s creativity and productivity'). There are some minor grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'stressful periods of time from those places' and 'as helps people' (missing subject pronoun 'it'). Punctuation is generally sound, and despite the presence of occasional slips, the majority of sentences are clear and do not impede communication, matching the Band 7 criteria for grammatical control.
