Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modernise era, hobbies are part of our day to day life. Everyone has a different taste and whatever makes them happy they will pursue that hobby. In my view, I strongly believe that everybody should have atleast one hobby regardless of age.

To begin with, hobbies are stressbuster. To elaborate, people are working in a lot of pressure and under stress. So, they need some time after work in which they can relax their mind and for that they need hobby to get out of the office stress. Furthermore, the retired people have to engage in some hobby too so that they can pass their time. Even, they can meet more like minded people so they won't feel bored and make great bond with others.

What is more, schools should engange children in number of activities so that children can select hobbies for themselves. Sometimes, a children could become an athelete in his/her life because of his/her interest in hobby. For example, Virat Kohli who was good in many activities in his school and later on he chose to play cricket as his hobby and he is a capton of Indian cricket team. Apart from this, hobby makes a man creative, punctual, decisive, wise and respectful. Moreover, in hobbies like gym we need to burn our calories which lead to less cardiovascular and heart problems. Even, kids can play and become less obese.

Overall, hobbies are essential for physical as well as mental health. So, everybody should have atleast one.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the importance of hobbies for children, working adults, and retired people, expressing a clear position throughout. You provide relevant ideas and examples, such as mentioning Virat Kohli to support your point about children and school activities. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or rely on sweeping generalizations, such as the claim that hobbies make a person 'punctual, decisive, wise.' To reach a higher level, you need to extend and fully develop your arguments with more specific, well-reasoned explanations rather than listing general attributes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices to connect your ideas, such as 'To begin with,' 'Furthermore,' and 'What is more.' Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different stages of your argument. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical or abrupt, particularly in the third paragraph where sentences like 'Apart from this, hobby makes a man creative' follow one another without smooth linking. To improve, you should ensure a more sophisticated progression of ideas and more flexible use of cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'stressbuster,' 'like minded,' and 'obese.' However, there are noticeable vocabulary and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'modernise era' instead of 'modernized era,' 'working in a lot of pressure' instead of 'working under a lot of pressure,' and 'capton' instead of 'captain.' Furthermore, your spelling and lexical choices are sometimes basic or repetitive. To achieve a higher score, you need to use a wider range of less common lexical items with greater precision, better collocation awareness, and zero spelling errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like 'whatever makes them happy they will pursue that hobby.' However, your writing contains frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('need hobby,' 'in gym'), incorrect preposition use ('working in a lot of pressure'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('a children could'). These errors occasionally cause minor strain for the reader. To improve your grammar score, you should focus on increasing your control over complex structures, ensuring accurate punctuation, and minimizing basic grammatical slips.
