Student answer (Band 6.0)

One of the most conspicuous trends of today's globalised world is the hobby. It is fundamental to have one hobby for pupils, adults, wage-earners and senior citizens. I think that hobby is one of the best way to keep a person busy in their life without any force. I am going to elaborate all my ideas and will give reasons in following paragraphs.

First and foremost, let me commence by stating the most predominant aspects associated with the hobby. If we talk about having hooby for children so they have lots of time to get involved with whatever they like to do for hobby. The more they get in their hobby they can know about their talent also they can decide their future if they have interest in computer skill, innovation things and many more. Furthermore, a hobby is one of the best way to socialise for adults. For instance, if youngsters have a hobby like playing music or sports, they can meet daily and start earning money by doing their activity.

Another advantage is having stress relief. Most of the working class have problems in their lives, and if they act in their own interests, they can refresh their minds by doing so. Because they are in the toughest part of their life when they have to manage expenses and build their future. For retired people, it is a good thing because at that time they do not have anything to do, so hooby can keep them busy in their life also keep away from any other kind of overthinking.

In conclusion, recreational activity is better for people of every age to learn new things and keep their mind active all the time without any force. I believe that everyone must have a hobby.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting an opinion on the importance of hobbies for different age groups, including children, adults, and senior citizens. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. While the points regarding working adults and retired individuals are reasonably explained, the ideas about children are somewhat repetitive and under-developed, relying on vague phrases like 'innovation things and many more'. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay, but further extension and specific supporting examples for each demographic group would be required to reach a higher level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different age groups and their specific benefits, such as children and adults in the second paragraph and working class and retired people in the third. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Phrases like 'First and foremost, let me commence by stating' are overly wordy and formulaic, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'because they are in the toughest part of their life'. Progression is evident, but smoother and more natural transitions would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'conspicuous', 'globalised', 'wage-earners', and 'recreational activity'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, such as misspelling 'hooby' multiple times and using awkward phrasing like 'innovation things' or 'one of the best way'. Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general message clearly without severely impeding communication, fitting well within the expectations for this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly concerning article usage, singular and plural agreement, and prepositions, such as 'is one of the best way' instead of 'ways' and 'If we talk about having hooby for children so they have'. However, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. A wider variety of error-free complex structures combined with tighter control over basic grammatical patterns would be needed to progress further.
