Student answer (Band 5.5)

Hobbies are part of life. Each genre has a specific hobby, which they would like to enjoy in their free time. In my perspective, at least a single hobby must be acquired by individuals of each age. In the forthcoming paragraph, I will elaborate on my opinion and then will lead to the logical conclusion.

There are myriad reasons to express my viewpoint; first and foremost is enjoyment of spare time. In other words, Individuals, specially grey haired people, who are no longer working, feel bored as all the members of the family are busy in work or school; moreover, they feel isolated or homesick. Adopting a hobby, puts colour in this life. For instance, most older people like to read; furthermore, warm-blooded people like to go to the gym. In this way, they get distracted from a monotonous lifestyle, as due to daily routine sometime people feel stressed and unmotivated. Hence, adopting a hobby puts colours in life.

Moving towards the second school of thought, hobbies sometimes become a profession. The basis of the future starts in childhood. Many of the sportsmen start playing in childhood as a game, but later on it becomes their profession. For example, Virat Kohli started playing cricket at a young age as a street game; soon it become his passion, and now he is renowned in the nation for his game.

Thus, adopting a hobby in childhood can be become a carrer, so parents must encourage childern to acquire atleast one hobby.

In conclusion, aftermaking arguments aforementioned above one can reached to the conclusion that, all age group should have a hobby not only to avoid isolation, but also to make a career.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing why having a hobby is important across different age groups, particularly focusing on older people and children. A clear position is presented throughout the essay. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the point regarding retired people is well supported with examples such as reading and going to the gym, while the discussion on working people is largely omitted despite being mentioned in the introduction. To move to a higher level, all demographic groups mentioned in the prompt should be given balanced attention and equal depth of development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the use of paragraphing is generally appropriate. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'first and foremost', 'furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly awkward, as seen in expressions like 'Moving towards the second school of thought' or 'aftermaking arguments aforementioned above', which disrupt the natural flow. Improving logical transitions and ensuring referencing is smooth and precise would elevate the cohesion of the writing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'monotonous lifestyle', 'renowned', and 'passion'. However, there are noticeable vocabulary and collocation errors, as well as awkward phrasing, such as 'Each genre has a specific hobby', 'warm-blooded people' to mean active individuals, and 'puts colour in this life'. Additionally, minor slip-ups in word choice and spelling occur, including 'carrer' and 'childern'. While communication is not severely impeded, refining word choice and ensuring natural collocations are used will significantly strengthen this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at variation. However, there are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage throughout the text, such as missing articles ('at least a single hobby', 'all age group'), awkward prepositions ('busy in work'), and punctuation errors like spacing issues ('life. Each', 'aftermaking'). Complex structures often contain faults, such as in the final conclusion sentence where the clause structure becomes tangled ('aftermaking arguments aforementioned above one can reached to the conclusion that'). Reducing these frequent errors and improving control over sentence boundaries will enhance accuracy.
