Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often said that children, young adults, working people and retired people should have at least one hobby. I strongly agree with this opinion because hobbies help people maintain a healthy balance in their lives, reduce stres and develop useful skills.
First of all, hobbies are particularly important for children and young adults because they help them develop their interests. For example children who participate in sports can learn teamwork, discipline and time management. Similarly, young people who enjoy activities such as painting, reading and playing a musical instrument can develop creativity and concentration. These skills can be useful not in their personal lives but also their education and future careers.
Hobbies are also beneficial for working adults. modern jobs can be demanding, and people often experience stress because of long working hours and responsibilities. Having a hobby gives them an opportunity to take a break from their routine and enjoy their free time. For Instance, a person who works in an office might enjoy gardening, cooking or exercising after work. Such activities can help them relax and return to work with more energy and a positive attitude.
Finally, hobbies can be especially valuable for retired people. after retirement, people may have more free time and fewer social interactions.Joining a walking group, doing yoga , gardening or travelling can keep them physically and mentally active. For example, my experienec of doing yoga has shown me that regular activities can improve my mood and give me an opportunity to connect with other people.
In conclusion, I believe that having at least one hobby is beneficial for people of all ages. It provides relaxation, improves physical and mental well- being, develop useful skills and makes life enjoyable.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
Your response covers all parts of the task well and presents a clear position throughout. You effectively address the prompt by categorizing individuals into life stages—children and young adults, working people, and the retired—and explaining the benefits of hobbies for each group. Your ideas are well developed with relevant examples, such as how sports help children learn teamwork and how gardening or yoga assists older adults in staying active. To reach the highest band, your ideas would need to be even more fully and deeply extended, perhaps by exploring the broader societal impacts of hobbies rather than focusing solely on individual benefits. However, your strong organizational approach and well-supported arguments mean your response meets the criteria for a very high level of achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
Your essay demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. You make effective use of paragraphing, devoting distinct paragraphs to each age group mentioned in the prompt, which helps the reader follow your arguments smoothly. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Similarly', 'Hobbies are also beneficial', and 'In conclusion' are used appropriately to guide the reader through your ideas. To move closer to the top bands, you could ensure that referencing within sentences is even tighter and that cohesive devices feel entirely natural and unobtrusive rather than relying on standard signposting phrases. Nevertheless, the overall arrangement is coherent, logical, and easy to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating less common items and thematic vocabulary such as 'responsibility', 'routine', 'mentally active', and 'well-being'. You also attempt some flexibility in discussing different life stages. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and mechanics, such as a missing capital letter in 'after retirement', a typo in 'stres', and an unusual phrasing with 'my experienec of doing yoga'. These occasional errors in word-choice and spelling place your lexical performance in the middle tier. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use a wider, more flexible range of sophisticated vocabulary with precise collocations and ensure flawless spelling and capitalization.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
Your response contains a reasonable mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to construct compound and complex ideas, such as 'For example children who participate in sports can learn teamwork...'. You show good control over basic grammatical structures, and your errors rarely impede communication. However, there are some persistent grammatical and punctuation slips throughout the text, including missing commas after introductory phrases like 'For example children' and 'after retirement', as well as minor punctuation issues. Because of these errors, your grammar sits comfortably in the middle band. To reach the next level, you need to produce a greater proportion of error-free complex sentences and refine your punctuation control.
