Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is very ubiquitous to see that nowadays every age group is being nomophobhic and using the technology in excessive way. So to inculate a healthy and fit routine, hobbies play pivotal role in all the age group whether young, toddlers or retired one. I strongly agree to this statement.

Initally, I would like to draw attention on the benefits of having hobbies or any one hobby. Hobby hone your all the three domains like cognitive, affective and psychomotor and it boost your knowledge and skills it an integral part of soft and practical or life skills through hobby a person feels less stressed out and more focused in his or her day, for instance I would like to tell you one incident from my husband's life he is a proficent player of badminton and so his hobby is also the same, He is very resilent and couldn't mitigate a day from playing the sport, so when I campare him with me he is very calm and compose towards every aspects of life he is very knowledgable and use his all domains in a perfect way.

Secondly I believe in make the person more socially and emotionally connected and as well as it make the punctucal and kind and learn alot of values and hone skills which help the person to grow and bloom in all possible way as above I mentioned my husband's example he is very social, kind humble and punctaul follows a healthy and active routine which help be to a active and ready for all situation there are so many hobby a person can inculate in life and in amin change a person's life like dance singing drawing and playing a sport, I believe hobby is kind of meditation and helps to be congnitivly and physicall fit and overwelhmed.

To conclude with hobby can be a good habit if it it follow in a daily basis and it can reduce srress and make a person feel active and healthy and happy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting a clear position agreeing that having a hobby is important for all age groups. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the mental and social benefits of hobbies across different stages of life, and the essay includes a personal example involving the writer's husband playing badminton. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the mention of multiple age groups in the introduction is not fully explored, as the body paragraphs primarily focus on working adults. The explanation of domains like 'cognitive, affective and psychomotor' is left undeveloped, and the reasoning tends to generalise rather than extending each point thoroughly. To reach a higher level, the writer should ensure that all introduced concepts—such as the relevance of hobbies for toddlers or the retired—receive equal development with specific supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used to separate main ideas, although the body paragraphs are overly dense and long, which affects the visual flow of the text. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Initally', 'Secondly', and 'To conclude with', but referencing and linking are sometimes mechanical or confusing. For example, sentences run together with comma splices or weak transition phrases like 'so when I campare him with me', making the logical progression slightly bumpy in places. To improve coherence, the writer should break down long, rambling sentences into manageable parts, use clearer cohesive ties between sentences, and organise the text into more distinct, balanced paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'ubiquitous', 'nomophobhic', 'resilent', and 'cognitivly'. However, there are noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors throughout the text that reflect a limited and developing control of word forms and collocations. Examples include 'ubiquitous' used awkwardly at the beginning of a sentence, the misspelling of 'nomophobic' and 'inculate' (instead of inculcate), and awkward word choices like 'mitigate a day' instead of 'miss a day'. Words are occasionally chosen inappropriately, such as 'overwelhmed' intended in a positive sense. While these slips do not completely impede communication, they restrict the vocabulary score and demonstrate that precision in word choice and spelling needs further refinement.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting multi-clause structures such as conditional and relative clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that persist throughout the text. These include missing or incorrect articles ('play pivotal role', 'in amin change'), subject-verb agreement issues ('Hobby hone your all the three domains'), incorrect prepositions, and run-on sentences punctuated only with commas where full stops are needed. For instance, the sentence starting with 'Secondly I believe in make the person...' contains multiple structural errors and lacks proper punctuation boundaries. To progress, the writer needs to exercise better control over basic sentence boundaries, verb forms, and prepositional patterns within complex structures.
