Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely argued that having at least one hobby is important for people of all ages. Reading, gardening, painting or even cycling is effective on both physical and mental well-being. Although many people do not have much free time, I agree with this view because hobbies help people reduce stress and develop useful skills and social connections.

One important reason why hobbies is important is that it helps people realive stress, relax and unwind. When people take up a hobby and enjoy doing it, they feel more relaxed and less stressed. To illustrate, when students do art or paint or the adults do gardening or spend time reading, they just take a break from daily responsibilities, as a result the feel better well-being mentally and physcially.

Other important reason why is it crucial to have hobbies is devlop useful skills and social connections. People of all ages who are swamped in work do not have much free time to built friendships. Spending time in hobbies allows people to meet like-minded people and running some social converstions outside the frame of work, moreover, develop useful skills just as gardening. For instance, if an individual spend time learning gardening and plant his own garden, he will gain a sense of achievement and make good use of his free time.

In conclusion, I truley belive that people from different generations should have at least one hobby to maintain a healthy, less-stressed life style. And build social connections with other people. Furthermore, gain practical knowledge about things they could use in their daily lives and sometimes some people uses their hobbies as a way to earn a living.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on why having a hobby is important for people across different life stages. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as stress reduction, skill development, and social connection. However, some ideas remain under-developed or briefly stated. For instance, the point about social connections in the third paragraph is somewhat limited, and the transition into gardening as a developed example feels slightly abrupt. The main argument is easy to follow and supported by general examples, fitting the descriptor where all parts are addressed though some are more fully explored than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as stress relief in the second paragraph and skill development in the third. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. There are noticeable errors in referencing and sentence linkage, such as the fragment phrase 'Other important reason why is it crucial...' which disrupts the logical flow. Cohesive devices like 'moreover' and 'furthermore' are employed, but the structural transitions between sentences occasionally feel abrupt, matching the characteristics of a response with clear overall coherence that suffers from some mechanical referencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'well-being', 'responsibilities', 'like-minded', and 'sense of achievement'. However, there are noticeable vocabulary and spelling inaccuracies that occur throughout the text, including 'realive' instead of 'relieve', 'physcially', 'devlop', 'built' instead of 'build', 'converstions', 'truley', 'belive', and 'uses' instead of 'use'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they demonstrate some lack of precision in word choice, form, and spelling, placing the vocabulary firmly in the adequate range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'if an individual spend time learning gardening...'. There are some errors in grammar, verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'One important reason why hobbies is important' (subject-verb agreement), 'if an individual spend' (verb form), and 'spending time in hobbies' instead of 'on hobbies'. Punctuation is also occasionally shaky, as seen in run-on constructions and sentence fragments in the conclusion. These errors do not impede communication, representing a mix of structures with controlled yet imperfect grammatical accuracy.
