Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is sayed that having atleast leisure activity could be very crucial for students, youngers, and retired. I strongly agree with that centiment since hobbies can create new skills and it could be generate new connections and etc.

To begin with, leisure time activities can develop new skills and connections. This is because hobbies identify hidden talents which are haven't show up. And also, new connections can be created through social media groups which are assigned to specific creators with similar interests. In addition, sports activities can maintain physical fitness. This could be mostly beneficial for the retired persons to keep fitness. That is why I belive hobbies can generate new connections and new skills.

Another major benefit of that hobbies can maintain mental relaxation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response only minimally addresses the task, primarily due to failing to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as the text is only 125 words long. While the writer expresses a clear opinion in the introduction by stating, 'I strongly agree with that centiment,' the ideas presented throughout the body paragraphs remain limited and underdeveloped. For instance, the point regarding physical fitness for retired persons is stated briefly without sufficient extension or supporting examples from personal experience. To reach a higher level, the response would need to be expanded significantly to cover all parts of the prompt with well-developed ideas and relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some organization, attempting a standard structure with an introduction and body paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the final paragraph is incomplete ('Another major benefit of that hobbies can maintain mental relaxation.'). Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'In addition,' but referencing is sometimes unclear, like the repetitive use of 'new connections and new skills.' Paragraphing is attempted, but the very short and abrupt final sentence disrupts the flow. To achieve higher bands, the writer must ensure logical progression throughout the text, develop a full conclusion, and use cohesive devices more accurately and naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas, featuring noticeable errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples of these inaccuracies include 'sayed' instead of 'said', 'atleast' instead of 'at least', 'youngers' instead of 'young people', and 'centiment' instead of 'sentiment'. The writer attempts some less common phrasing, such as 'hidden talents' and 'mental relaxation', but spelling and morphological errors like 'haven't show up' rather than 'haven't shown up' restrict the score. To improve, the student should expand their range of vocabulary and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, with attempts at complex structures that contain frequent errors. There are notable issues with verb forms, tenses, and agreements, such as 'It is sayed that having atleast leisure activity could be...' and 'talents which are haven't show up.' Frequent errors are present throughout the text, including prepositions and structural patterns, which can cause some difficulty for the reader. To move up to a higher band, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms with greater accuracy and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical slips.
