Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that having a hobby is important for people across different life stages. Relevant ideas are introduced for children, working people, and retired individuals, such as stress relief for students and walking for older adults. However, some of these ideas are under-developed or supported with vague generalisations rather than fully extended examples. For instance, the mention of children engaging in painting and singing is introduced but not linked back deeply to how it benefits their overall development, and the introduction features a conversational placeholder ("here are some examples which i will share in upcoming paragraphs") rather than fully integrated planning. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend every main idea with robust explanations and specific, fully realised examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, allowing the reader to follow the writer's stance. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct age groups, which aids organisation. Nevertheless, cohesion is at times faulty, mechanical, or repetitive, relying heavily on basic transitional markers such as "First of all" and "In conclusion". Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in the concluding sentence ("In the recent article shows...") where the connection to the preceding text is abrupt. To progress further, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing and transitions flow more naturally between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a minimally sufficient range to discuss hobbies and lifestyle habits. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as "amenities" and "leisure activities," but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as writing "all age humans" instead of "people of all ages" or "pursued in their young time" instead of "pursued in their youth." Spelling and word-form errors are present but generally do not impede communication. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire and demonstrate greater precision and naturalness in word choice and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain errors. There are frequent lapses in grammatical control, including subject-verb agreement issues ("everyone keep", "people suffers"), article omissions or misuses, and incorrect prepositions or verb tenses (e.g., "I am agree", "without do anything"). Punctuation errors, such as comma splices ("Leisure activities are vital for all age humans, I am agree..."), also occur. Although these errors rarely impede overall communication, they prevent the text from achieving a higher level of accuracy. A stronger command of complex sentence patterns and closer attention to basic grammatical rules are required to improve.
