Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that having a hobby is beneficial for people of all ages, from students to senior citizens. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the positive impact of hobbies on mental health and workplace productivity, which aligns with the requirements of the prompt. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the paragraph on working adults touches upon car mechanics and listening to music, but the explanation remains somewhat generalized and lacks deeper extension. To reach a higher band, the writer would need to fully develop every supporting argument with more comprehensive examples and thorough elaboration rather than shifting quickly between disparate thoughts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, fulfilling the requirements for the lower band while showing part of the next. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as mental health benefits in the second paragraph and workplace productivity in the third. Progression is generally logical, guided by transitional phrases like 'To begin with' and 'In addition'. However, the cohesion feels somewhat mechanical at times, and referencing can be imprecise, such as the abrupt transitions between sentences in the second body paragraph. To achieve a fully higher band, the writer must ensure smoother transitions between sentences and more precise referencing to make the logical progression completely seamless.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a minimally sufficient range to convey the main ideas about hobbies and relaxation. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'multifarious' and 'efficiency', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling. Examples include 'havig', 'laiure', 'chorses', 'energatic', 'activenes', 'repetative', and 'effeciancy'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited lexical control. To improve, the writer needs to expand their working vocabulary and focus heavily on accurate spelling and correct word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied structures. However, there is a frequent presence of grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and sentence construction. Examples of these issues include 'a school student is enjoying... is really help them out', 'If he do work', and 'worker cannot eaily board'. These persistent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, which places the response firmly within this band category. To move up, the writer must increase control over complex sentence patterns, ensure correct subject-verb agreement, and refine verb tense consistency throughout the text.
