Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often said that everyone despite any age group should gave a hobby.
I agree to this point of view because having a hobby keep ones active and motivated.
In past, many people used to have a hobby mostly reading and gardening. These activities were healthy and brainstorming. But over the time, when technology got advanced, people shifted their interest to social media. Nowadays, if we ask someone about their hobby, they are clueless and don't know what to say. For example, I once had a hobby of reading novels but then due to lack of time, I quitted this. The reason is that life has become more faster and hectic.
People think that having a hobby is time consuming and useless activity. However, this is not the fact. If someone has a good hobby, he will spare time for himself then as a result he can be more productive towards his commitments. The only need is to manage time properly. A balanced lifestyle is necessary for both physical and mental wellbeing. Literature states that overall performance of a person can be effected by brainstorming activities. So everyone should choose hobbies according to their choice and schedule.
It is great strategy to utilize the leisure time in fun activities. Furthermore, it enhances the mental capabilities of a person. Hence everyone including children, young adults, jobians and retired should have a hobby according to their convenience and choice.
In conclusion, I strongly support the idea of having a healthy hobby for everyone. It has positive effect on overall health and also increases the performance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting a clear position on whether individuals across all life stages should have a hobby, agreeing with the statement throughout. Relevant ideas are presented, such as the mental and physical benefits of hobbies and how time management plays a crucial role. However, some ideas remain under-developed or lack full extension. For instance, the discussion on how technology has shifted people's interests to social media is introduced in the second paragraph but not fully linked back to the core argument about why hobbies are essential for every age group. Similarly, the personal example about reading novels is brief and could have been expanded to better support the overall thesis. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to extend and thoroughly support all main ideas with more detailed explanations and fully developed examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as historical shifts in hobbies, counterarguments regarding time constraints, and the psychological benefits of leisure activities. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader through the text, such as 'However', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, such as the abrupt transition between paragraphs and repetitive sentence structures that hinder a completely smooth logical progression. To achieve a higher score, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing between sentences creates a seamless flow of ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and subject-specific terms such as 'physical and mental wellbeing', 'leisure time', and 'brainstorming activities'. However, there are noticeable word-choice, collocation, and word-form errors that reflect a limited level of precision. Examples include 'gave a hobby' instead of 'have a hobby', 'keep ones active' instead of 'keeps ones active' or 'keeps people active', 'quitted' instead of 'quit', 'more faster' instead of 'faster', and the informal colloquialism 'jobians' instead of 'working people' or 'employees'. Additionally, there are minor awkward phrasings like 'great strategy to utilize'. These inaccuracies do not severely impede communication, but they prevent the writing from displaying the greater flexibility and control required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to vary sentence structures with clauses introduced by 'because', 'if', and 'although'. There are, however, some noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Examples of grammatical lapses include subject-verb agreement issues ('having a hobby keep ones active'), missing articles ('In past' instead of 'In the past', 'It is great strategy'), preposition misuse, and tense inconsistencies ('when technology got advanced'). Despite these errors, the sentence structures are generally understandable, and the mistakes rarely impede the reader's comprehension. To move further up the scale, the writer must produce a higher frequency of error-free sentences using complex structures with greater accuracy and control.
