Student answer (Band 7.0)
All individuals irrespective of their age should have at least one hobby. I agree with this statement because having a hobby certainly helps in enjoying the solitude.
In the modern era, a life of an individual is very hectic. Children and Adolescents are occupied in their academic studies, which puts a mental strain on them. Doing your favourite activities brings immense joy and happiness, which can release the constant mental pressure from chaotic life. Similary, it helps earning individuals to detach themselves from their professional commitments, thereby, maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Overall, a hobby is stress reliever, which is absolutely necessary for the mental health.
Retired individuals are used to their mundane corporate life, which makes it difficult for them to live without doing any work. Despite having a free time, they feel much lonelier than usual as they miss the daily interactions with their office colleagues. An idle mind often overthinks different situations and tends to focus on the absurd things, which deteriorates overall well-being. Therefore, a daily routine that promotes healthy lifestyle is essential to relax and rejuvenate. For instance, a person having a hobby to do physical exercises like jogging in the park or going to gym on a daily basis not only helps to be physcially fit but also provides an opportunity to interact with different people.
In conclusion, I strongly concur with the statement a it is paramount for a person to have at least one hobby, which not helps them to enjoy their free time but also removes any physical and mental fatigue.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The writer explores the necessity of hobbies across various age groups, from busy working adults to retired individuals. Ideas are generally extended and supported, such as when discussing how physical exercise helps retirees maintain fitness and social connections. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise, and the initial introduction is somewhat brief, mentioning 'enjoying the solitude' which is not fully consistent with the social aspects of hobbies highlighted later in the essay. To reach a higher band, the ideas could be more fully developed with deeper extension and a more nuanced exploration of how hobbies impact different generations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from a general introduction to the impact on working people, then to retired individuals, and finally to a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'In the modern era', 'Similary', and 'Therefore', ensuring the text hangs together logically. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, the writer could make transitions even more fluid and ensure that referencing between sentences is entirely seamless, avoiding minor mechanical feel in some of the cohesive links.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and makes some successful attempts at less common items, such as 'professional commitments', 'work-life balance', and 'mundane corporate life'. There are, however, some vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'Similary' instead of similarly, 'physcially' instead of physically, and minor awkwardness in phrasing like 'a hobby to do physical exercises'. These errors do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments easily. To move into a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate greater precision in word choice and collocation, alongside error-free spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable control of grammar and punctuation. Examples of complex structures include 'Despite having a free time, they feel much lonelier than usual as they miss the daily interactions...' However, there are some noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'a life of an individual is very hectic', missing articles like 'having a free time', and a fragmented clause in the conclusion ('a it is paramount'). These errors occasionally disrupt the flow but rarely impede communication. To attain a higher band, the writer should produce more error-free sentences when using complex structures and refine articles and prepositions.
