Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many individual have their own interest depends on their personalities, whether this person is an introvert or extrovert. In this essay it will discuss why everyone should atleast have one hobby, especially for retired person or anyone in the community.

In my own perspective, it is necessary and essential to have atleast one interest or hobby in life because it helps an individual to discover their talents and will help them learn creativity. Having said that, it also provides physical activities and emotional stability of a person whether it is a young or adult person. One example is, a retired individual age ranging from 65 and above, some of them enjoying hobbies like planting some vegetables in their backyard. With this activity, adults will not feel bored even they are only at home, they will feel busy and it could be good form of exercise. Additionally it provides good mental health because they will not feel stress for staying at home and doing nothing. Another example is for working individual, they should have some diversional activity like baking or doing the things that will help their mind away from work. And for young individuals, it is important to have some sports or develop other learning activities in order for them to avoid focusing in technologies like smartphones or other video games that is unhealthy in their mind and health.

To conclude this essay, it is a vital to have a hobbies or interest whether a young, working person or retired one because it provides recreational activity, good mental status by less stress and also a form of exercise. And through this, people will learn and discover their talents or wants in life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on the importance of hobbies across different age groups. The ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as retired individuals planting vegetables or working people baking to relieve stress. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalise in the development of certain points, such as the sweeping statement about young people and smartphones. Overall, the main arguments are well presented and clearly cover children, working adults, and retired people, satisfying the core requirements of the prompt effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introduction through body paragraphs covering different age groups, to a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as "Additionally" and "Another example is," though referencing and mechanical linking occasionally feel slightly repetitive or predictable. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, body arguments, and conclusion, ensuring the overall structure remains clear and easy for the reader to follow throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an acceptable range with attempts at less common items such as "introvert," "extrovert," and "diversional activity." However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, word form, and collocation, such as "Many individual" instead of "Many individuals," "retired person" instead of "retired people," and "good mental status" instead of "good mental health." Spelling and word-choice errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score by revealing a limited precision and occasional awkward phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are some noticeable errors in grammar, such as subject-verb agreement issues ("depends on their personalities," "a retired individual age ranging"), missing articles ("it is a vital to have a hobbies"), and prepositional or structural inaccuracies ("focusing in technologies"). These errors are intermittent and rarely impede communication, but the frequent presence of basic grammatical slips prevents the response from achieving a higher level of control.
