Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing why having a hobby is important for children, youngsters, working people, and retired individuals, thus establishing a clear position. However, some ideas remain somewhat under-developed. For instance, the paragraph on retired people mentions that they have more free time and like to talk, but the supporting examples are slightly repetitive and lack deeper elaboration. To reach the next level, the writer needs to extend and support all main arguments with richer, more fully explored ideas and more sophisticated supporting details across every category mentioned in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dedicating distinct paragraphs to children, working adults, and retired individuals. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'The first and foremost', 'In addition', and 'Lastly', which helps the reader follow the flow of ideas. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes a bit mechanical, and certain sentences within paragraphs do not flow seamlessly into one another. Achieving a higher band would require more flexible and natural use of cohesive devices, alongside smoother logical transitions between sentences to create a more unified progression of thought throughout the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common phrases like 'stressless', 'work burdens', and 'community get to gether'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('contemprory', 'actvities', 'perticular', 'hobbie', 'unstressfull', 'individauls') and awkward word choices ('make people stressless', 'another things') that cause some distraction for the reader. To improve lexical resource, the student must broaden their control over word forms, improve spelling accuracy, and employ more precise, natural collocations appropriate for an academic context rather than relying on repetitive and occasionally imprecise terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to vary sentence structures with clauses like 'By doing these kinds of actvities they can improve thier skills...'. Nonetheless, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('play vital role in people life', 'have lot of stress'), incorrect pluralisation ('this hobbies', 'one hobbies'), and preposition errors. These persistent inaccuracies indicate limited control over complex structures. To move upward, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate greater accuracy in basic grammatical patterns, article usage, and subject-verb agreement.
