Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by stating a clear position of agreement regarding the importance of hobbies across different age groups and life stages. Relevant ideas are presented, such as stress reduction and personal growth, but some points remain under-developed, lacking sufficient depth or concrete explanation. For example, the claim that hobbies foster social well-being is introduced without fully exploring how this manifests in practice. Additionally, it must be noted that the length requirement is not met, as the response contains 218 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, fulfilling the requirements for the lower band. Ideas are logically sequenced, moving from stress relief to personal development. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical and repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on transitional phrases like 'To begin with,' 'To explain it,' and 'To elaborate it.' Paragraphing is used, but referencing is occasionally unclear, which prevents the essay from achieving a fully natural flow throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their main ideas successfully. There are attempts to use less common items, such as 'brotherhood' and 'stress management,' but these are accompanied by noticeable word-choice errors, unnatural collocations, and minor spelling slips like 'fof' instead of 'for' and 'strenghten' instead of 'strengthen'. Furthermore, awkward phrasings like 'minumum one hobby' and 'if we are loving to do' show that control of lexical units is limited, though the meaning remains generally clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structure. However, there are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly concerning articles, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as '76% of population that follow' instead of 'the population that follows' and 'retired person' rather than plural forms. Punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after commas and periods, are frequent. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they keep the grammar score at this level.
