Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the importance of hobbies for people of various ages, presenting a clear position that hobbies provide a vital reason to live and enjoy life. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and under-developed. While the writer mentions the benefits of hobbies, such as motivation for hard work and financial stability through travel, these points lack deep elaboration and specific, fully realised examples. For instance, the reference to painting and singing is kept too broad, and the link between a travel hobby and income is asserted rather than thoroughly explained. To move towards higher bands, the writer needs to present fully extended ideas with deeper supporting details rather than relying on generalisations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at logical progression. Paragraphing is used appropriately to divide the introduction, body points, and conclusion, and the essay is clearly divided into distinct thematic sections. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, as seen with transitions like 'Consequently' and 'For example' used across consecutive sentences. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as pronoun ambiguity in phrases like 'show their performce with particular thing'. To achieve a higher band, the writer must employ a more flexible and varied range of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing within and across sentences flows more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'fundamentally advantageous', 'profound impact', and 'finacially stable', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable word-choice, spelling, and word-form errors, including 'hooby', 'finacially', and 'imparatively'. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader in grasping the exact intended meaning. To reach higher proficiency, the writer needs to expand their lexical range, ensure greater precision in word choice and collocations, and eliminate spelling mistakes that detract from the overall quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response relies on a limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent attempts at complex sentences often containing significant structural errors. There are noticeable issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'people of any age needs' and 'hobby is the thing which gives', alongside frequent article omissions and preposition errors inside grammatical patterns. While simple sentences are generally understandable, errors in grammar are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer should focus on mastering basic agreement rules, refining complex sentence constructions, and ensuring better control over punctuation and verb forms.
