Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is clear: you strongly support having a hobby, and you give relevant reasons about career choice and motivation at work. The examples of a child becoming a veterinarian and a veterinarian feeling renewed enthusiasm help connect hobbies to the task. However, the ideas remain limited and are not fully explained; for instance, the chef example is difficult to follow and does not clearly show how a hobby improves work. The response also does not meet the stated 250-word minimum, which restricts the opportunity to develop your reasons and examples. To strengthen the response, explain each reason more fully and add a further relevant example or detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and examples are placed alongside the points they are meant to support. However, the overall progression is not always clear: the second body paragraph begins with “On the other hand,” although it adds another supporting reason rather than presenting a contrasting view. Some links between ideas are also unclear, particularly the move from the veterinarian example to the chef example. Repeated use of “For example” and “It” makes cohesion mechanical, and the conclusion simply repeats the opinion. Use more precise transitions, make the relationship between each example and its point explicit, and develop a clearer sequence of ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “leisure activity,” “profession,” “motivation,” and “passion,” so the reader can understand the main topic and your position. However, the range is limited, and noticeable spelling and word-choice errors sometimes make the message harder to follow. Examples include “effeciently,” “belive,” “attrated,” and “intrusted.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “advanced personalities,” “give us more efficient food,” and “minimum one leisure activity.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise expressions for the benefits of hobbies would help you explain your ideas without relying on repeated general words such as “good” and “helpful.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause with “because” and examples using “who,” which shows an effort to vary sentence structure. However, errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to interpret. For example, “I strongly agreed” uses an unsuitable tense, while “people with hobbies having advanced personalities” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Verb forms are also problematic in “he was been more intrusted” and “he will give us,” where the tense does not fit the surrounding account. There are issues with articles, agreement and punctuation as well. Practise building accurate subject–verb sentences first, then add subordinate clauses and check that verb tense remains consistent.
