Student answer (Band 6.0)

Hobbies are an integral part of life. It helps to sustain balance between workload and free time. All people regardless of their age should be engaged in some kind of hobbies.

With the passage of time and change in life style, hobbies tends to modify as well.

Children can perform simple activities to keep themselves busy. Parents can indulge them in painting, cookery classes, gardening, cycling and much more.

By performing these activities they build confidence in themselves and maintain composure in the surroundings.

For Instance, nowadays music classes are a medium of bringing change in children personalities as they get involved in playing all sorts of instruments and this lessen their aggretion as well by divert their attention towards a healthy activity.

Secondly, people who are continuously working throughout the week, need some time to relax and recharge themselves. It is utmost important for them to have some sort of hobby that they can do in their free time rather than sitting idle. Perhaps watching movies, cooking, gardening or visiting new places can be a part of their hobbies.

For example, I usually work six days a week and have a busy schedule but whenever I have free time, I try to visit new places. This helps me broaden my thoughts and I am able to learn interesting facts.

My recent visit to the museum improved my knowledge about the history and traditions of ancient civilization and I learnt how various artifacts were preserved.

This was completely new for me and it helped me in my project completion for history subject.

From my prespective, hobbies make life vibrant and meaningful. It helps to pass leisure time in a more productive way and it is a way of connecting people with similar interests as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you believe people of all ages benefit from having hobbies, and you give relevant reasons, including confidence-building for children, relaxation for workers, and learning through visits to new places. The personal example about visiting a museum also supports your view with specific detail. However, the discussion is uneven: children and working adults receive examples, while young adults and retired people are not considered separately, and the benefits for children are asserted more than explained. To strengthen the response, address the different groups more evenly and develop each main reason by explaining how the hobby produces the stated benefit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement, moving from a general opinion to children, working adults, a personal example, and a concluding view. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and signposts such as “Secondly” and “For example” make the progression easy to follow. Some connections, however, feel mechanical or unclear. “With the passage of time and change in life style” does not lead clearly into the discussion of children, and “This was completely new for me” has a somewhat vague reference. The conclusion repeats the opening idea rather than drawing together the examples. Use clearer links between claims and examples, and make references explicit so the reader can follow the argument more smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “sustain balance,” “recharge,” “broaden my thoughts,” and “artifacts were preserved.” These choices help express several different benefits of hobbies, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural word choices and collocations, such as “maintain composure in the surroundings,” “lessen their aggretion,” and “project completion.” Spelling errors, including “prespective” and “aggretion,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe hobbies as helping children “develop self-confidence” or “reduce aggression,” and say the museum visit “helped me complete a history project.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “as,” “but,” and “whenever.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the museum example is developed across several sentences. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with agreement and sentence construction: “Hobbies … It helps” should use a plural pronoun, “hobbies tends” needs plural agreement, and “this lessen … by divert” contains incorrect verb forms. The sentence beginning “For Instance” also joins several ideas in a way that makes its structure difficult to control. Review subject–verb agreement and keep long sentences manageable, while continuing to practise complex clauses with accurate verb forms.
