Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that everyone should have a hobby, and you give relevant reasons involving social connection and mental well-being. Examples such as joining a dance class and gardening after work help illustrate these points. However, the ideas remain brief and are not fully explained; for instance, the claim that hobbies develop creativity and discipline could be linked more clearly to how this benefits different age groups. The conclusion repeats the main points rather than extending them. The response is 224 words, so it is 26 words below the required minimum; the nine words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop each reason with more explanation and a specific example to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “For example” signal the main stages and help the reader follow the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first body paragraph moves from creativity and communication to future skills and retired people without explaining how these points connect. Some linking is mechanical, and the conclusion repeats ideas rather than bringing them together smoothly. Punctuation and inconsistent capitalisation also interrupt the flow, as in “Secondly, An other advantages” and “well-being .in addition.” Group related points more carefully, use references such as “these activities” clearly, and check sentence boundaries to make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “creativity,” “discipline,” “reduce stress,” “stay active,” and “social connections.” These choices make your main ideas understandable, and you attempt some topic-specific expressions. However, the range is limited and several word combinations or forms are inaccurate, such as “makes social benefits,” “friends circle,” and “feel relax and peace.” Spelling errors including “afer” and “loanliness” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message, but they make the writing less natural and precise. Build a bank of common collocations for hobbies and well-being, and proofread spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences using clauses introduced by “because,” “that,” and “who,” so there is some variety in structure. The main message is generally understandable, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently. Examples include “One of the advantage … makes,” where the subject and verb pattern are faulty, and “someone who enjoy dancing,” where the verb does not agree with its subject. Other problems include missing or misplaced sentence punctuation, as in “well-being .in addition,” and inconsistent capitalisation after commas. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, then check each sentence aloud. More reliable control of these basics will make your longer sentences clearer.
