Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you largely agree that people of all ages benefit from having a hobby, and you address children, workers and retired people, as well as giving personal examples. The discussion of children’s need for a break from study and workers’ need to balance a demanding routine is relevant. The grandmother’s sewing and your yoga and meditation also help make the response specific. This meets the task well, though the groups are not developed equally: the retired people’s benefits are mostly illustrated by one example, while the opening claim about “advancement” is not explained. To strengthen the response further, explain more precisely how hobbies benefit each group and connect examples directly to those benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, paragraphs about children and working or retired people, and a concluding opinion. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all” and “Furthermore” help signal the main stages, and examples generally follow the points they illustrate. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes uneven: the point about children using fewer devices appears abruptly, and the final paragraph repeats the general claim rather than drawing together the earlier reasons. Some linking phrases, including “In addition with” and “owing to this,” are awkward or do not clearly show the relationship between ideas. Use simpler, accurate transitions and make each paragraph’s central point explicit, with examples clearly tied to it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “hobby,” “physical activities,” “environment,” “relaxation” and “moral values.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “fast pace of life.” However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less fluent, for example “hactic,” “competeion,” “prepration” and “enhace.” Some combinations are unnatural, such as “give them a cut from their fast pace of life” and “learn a new skill” in a context where the intended meaning could be more precise. Build a bank of accurate collocations for leisure and wellbeing, and proofread spelling and word forms so your ideas are easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including explanations with “because” and “so,” and a relative clause in “a hobby in which they feel comfortable.” This gives the response some structural variety. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence boundaries. Examples include “learner can be take part,” “which make them,” “people who have … should have a hobby which give them,” and “she have enough time.” Several long sentences also join ideas without clear punctuation, making relationships harder to follow. Practise checking the subject and verb in each clause, use consistent tense, and separate complete ideas with full stops. More accurate control of these patterns would make your complex sentences clearer.
