Student answer (Band 6.5)

Now-a-days all of us are occupied with the hectic day to day schedule and no one has time for anything else. In order to be prepared for the next day, we need to make sure that our brains get enough rest and refreshing time and to achieve that many individuals think that everyone should at least have one hobby, from children to retired individuals.I am also in favour of the above statement and the reason behind my support is explained in detail in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, I personally think that having one hobby and spending just one hour behind it will significantly help replenish you mentally as well as physically. For example, swimming is my hobby, everyday one hour of swimming makes me forget about stress I had at work and also helps me improve my physical health. Moreover some retired people find activites like swimming and running quite fascinating as these activites are the reason for them to get out of their homes and do something else than procastinating.

On the other hand, children, adults and some working professional whose day to day activity requires some sort of physical movement should also have at least one hobby and it does not necessarily need to be something physical. For example, professionals like general labour and warehouse workers can join an indoor activity club and play games like chess and carrom. Moreover, children and young adults can also join classes where their IQ and brain storming power can be optimized by solving puzzles.

To conclude, it can be said that everyone, from children to retired individuals, sould have at least one hobby which can help them get rid of the stress and help them refresh from their hectic daily life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction, where you state that you are “in favour,” and it remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the broad range of people in the prompt and give relevant reasons, including mental refreshment, physical health and opportunities for social or intellectual activity. The swimming example is particularly effective because it connects a hobby to your own experience. The discussion of activities for children and working people is also relevant, but the benefits of puzzles and indoor games are asserted rather than explained in much detail. Some claims, such as hobbies helping everyone recover from stress, are quite general. Develop each group-specific point with a clearer explanation or example to make the support more consistently convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting different examples, and a conclusion that restates your view. Ideas generally progress logically, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. This gives the essay a coherent foundation. However, some linking is mechanical, with “Moreover” repeated, and the second body paragraph groups children, young adults and working professionals together without a fully clear progression between them. The opening sentence is also very long, and the missing space after “individuals.” makes the transition harder to read. Use more varied, precise links and make the relationship between each example and its main point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss routines, hobbies and wellbeing, including “hectic,” “replenish,” “fascinating” and “procrastinating.” These choices help communicate your ideas, and the examples of swimming, chess and puzzles give the essay relevant topic language. However, some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “spending just one hour behind it,” “refreshing time” and “brain storming power.” There are also spelling errors, including “activites,” “procastinating” and “sould,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe time as being “spent on” a hobby and refer to “problem-solving skills” rather than “brain storming power.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “whose day to day activity requires…” and a relative clause beginning “which can help them…”. Meaning is generally clear, and the response includes several sentences that are controlled. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain, however. In “everyday one hour of swimming makes me forget about stress I had at work,” the time expression and article use need attention; “every day, an hour of swimming helps me forget the stress I had at work” is more accurate. The opening sentence runs several clauses together, and the comma after “Moreover” is missing. Review sentence boundaries, articles and punctuation, while continuing to use varied structures.
