Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people believe that it is necessary to have at least one hobby for children, youth, working and retired individuals. I opine that having a hobby may helps everybody to maintain their mental and physical health. It helps in several ways depending on the age of a person.

To begin with, hobbies may encourage creativity and excitement mainly in kids or young adults. In early years of their development, they have a good learning power, which motivates them to learn various skills. For example, many parents would like to put their kids in skill-training classes where they can meet different people. This allows them to develope relationships with others, learn problem-solving skills, encourages independent behavior. In addition, a physcial hobby make them busy and involved in such tasks, which may decrease their screen time too.

Furthermore, having hobbies like reading a book, dancing, singing or doing exercises improves person's mental and physcial health. Nowadays, people have numerous responsibilities related to work, career and a family, this creates a lot of stress and fatigue in their life. People need some quality time to improve their focus and work efficiency. For instance, many organizations provide some free time to their employees within working hours for their relaxation, when employees may perform their hobbies like doing gym workout, painting or reading. This can be possible if person has at least one hobby to leave evrything aside and enjoy free time. Moreover, especially older people may get tired of staying home in their retirement time. In that situation, retired individuals may spend their time in doing gardening or cleaning. These activities make them physically active and decrease illnesses due to sedentary life styles.

In my conclusion, to have at least one hobby may improves quality of life for people of all ages. Hobbies may encourage physical and mental growth of young individuals and prevent illness in later time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you support hobbies because they can benefit people’s mental and physical health. You address the different age groups through examples about children, employees and retired people, and you extend your points with explanations such as hobbies reducing screen time and gardening helping older adults stay active. This gives the response relevant support across the task. Some claims, however, are broad or not fully explained: the point about organizations offering hobby time at work is presented as a general practice, and the final conclusion mainly repeats the benefits rather than drawing together the examples. Develop these points with more specific reasoning or a concrete example to make the support more convincing and consistently detailed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs discuss benefits for younger people and adults, and a conclusion restates your position. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “In addition” help readers follow the main points. Within sentences, however, some links are awkward or unclear. For example, “This allows them to develope relationships with others, learn problem-solving skills, encourages independent behavior” does not maintain a consistent grammatical pattern, making the relationship between the listed benefits less smooth. The transition from workplace stress to the example of organizational free time could also be more explicit. Use cohesive devices to show cause and effect precisely, rather than relying mainly on familiar sequencing phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “problem-solving skills,” “work efficiency,” “sedentary lifestyles,” and “physically active.” These choices help communicate relevant ideas about wellbeing across different ages. There are also some inaccurate word choices, collocations and spelling errors that limit precision: “learning power” is less natural than “capacity to learn,” “put their kids in skill-training classes” is awkward, and “cleaning” is not a clear example of a retirement hobby. Spelling slips such as “develope,” “physcial,” and “evrything” also reduce control. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more flexible and precise without changing your clear meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses of reason and time, as in “Nowadays, people have numerous responsibilities… this creates a lot of stress” and “when employees may perform their hobbies.” Meaning is generally clear, and some sentences are controlled well. However, some grammatical errors remain. In “having a hobby may helps,” the modal should be followed by the base verb; “a physical hobby make them” needs subject–verb agreement; and “improves person's mental and physical health” needs an article or plural possessive. The list “learn problem-solving skills, encourages independent behavior” also shifts verb form. Review agreement, articles and parallel structures, and avoid joining two independent clauses with only a comma, as in the sentence beginning “Nowadays.”
