Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is widely considered that people from all ages children, young adults, working professionals and retirees must have a hobby to follow. I completely support this view as it offers several benefits to individuals for their personal as well as professional growth.
Children have a considerable amount of time for recreational activities. By engaging themselves in science, creativity, sports, reading, digital games, designing or something else they can develop their interests in a specific field and can continue to pursue it. This not only provides them with self-learning but also gives a broader sense of opportunities to choose from.
Young adults and working people often struggle to spend quality time. Due to their education and work commitments they are only left with a few hours a week to devote to themselves. Upon engaging in an entertaining activity they can be relaxed and be ready for the coming week. For instance, by choosing to play a team sport once a week they can get an opportunity to socialize with their peers and stay healthy. Eventually, this practice can lead to more productivity.
By adopting a new hobby elderly people can spend their time wisely. Retired people become free from following strict work schedules and they find ways to pastime. This is evident among senior citizens that they like gardening and often spend several hours maintaining them. These practises not only keep them busy but also give them a chance to socialize with others. Along with this, they can also choose to join physical activities like yoga, walking and so on which can keep them fit and active.
In conclusion, it is undoubtedly true that following a passion can be profitable to make career decisions for children, spending some quality time alone for ones with busy schedule and can be a good activity for retirees to be busy with themselves. From my perspective, it is a good view which should be followed by everyone for their own growth.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the opening: you support the view that people of all ages should have a hobby, and the conclusion restates this stance. You address children, working-age people and retirees, giving relevant benefits such as developing interests, relieving work-related pressure, socialising and staying active. The examples, including team sport and gardening, help extend the discussion. The response therefore covers the task and supports its main ideas. Some claims remain broad, however: the link between hobbies and children’s career decisions, for example, is asserted rather than illustrated, and the benefits for young adults and working people are grouped together. Develop one or two points with a more specific explanation or personal example to make the support more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your opinion, three body paragraphs consider different age groups, and a conclusion summarises the argument. Paragraphs are focused, and linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Along with this,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. This logical organisation is effective. Some connections are less smooth or precise, though. The shift from children’s interests to “a broader sense of opportunities” is not fully explained, and the conclusion compresses several ideas into one long sentence, making their relationships harder to follow. Use clearer references when moving between groups and make the final summary more parallel—for example, state one distinct benefit for each age group.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “recreational activities,” “work commitments,” “socialize,” “productivity,” and “physical activities.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some topic-specific language adds variety. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “ways to pastime,” “maintaining them” for gardens, and “profitable to make career decisions” do not express the intended meanings naturally. “Practises” is also an incorrect spelling in this context; the noun should be “practices.” Aim to learn vocabulary in common combinations and check whether a phrase fits its context. More precise wording would make your argument sound more fluent and assured.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including clauses introduced by “By engaging…” and “which can keep them fit and active.” Most sentences remain understandable, and punctuation generally separates the main ideas effectively. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with sentence construction, agreement and possessives. In “people from all ages children, young adults…” the list needs clearer punctuation or a phrase such as “people of all ages, including…”. “Maintaining them” has an unclear plural reference, while “ones with busy schedule” needs a plural possessive form. The conclusion also joins several ideas without a fully controlled parallel structure. Review articles, possessives and pronoun references, and edit long sentences to ensure each clause connects clearly.
