Student answer (Band 6.0)

People should have a hobby whether they are children, young adults, working people or retired people. In my opinion, it helps them to relax their minds and connect with other people.

First of all, if children have a hobby to pursue, they could relax their minds. Children have numerous subjects to learn in this modern era which makes them tired and stressed. In order to mitigate these problems, they should have a hobby such as painting, drawing and so on. As a result, they could refresh their minds and more focus on their study. For example, Many school have extra classes in which they allow students to do painting and other activities. Also, young adults, working people and retired people should follow their hobby to refresh thier minds and they have a break from their work.

Another reason to consider is that having a hobby allows you to be socialise with other people. To exemplify, if Individuals are interested in painting and drawing, they could join classes in which they could meet people who has the same hobby. Consequently, you have a chance to communicate with them to improve your work and you would not feeling bored which motivates them. For example, when I was a child, I used to attend an art classes and I have made many friends over there.

In conclusion, following a hobby brings many benefits for all people such as they could refresh their minds and helps them to concentrate more on work or study. Also, they have an opportunity to interact with other people which helps them to improve their work.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that people of all ages should have a hobby, and you give two relevant reasons—relaxation and social connection. The examples of school art activities and your own experience attending art classes help make the points concrete. The response addresses the task, but the age groups are not explored equally: the first paragraph focuses mainly on children, while the benefits for adults and retired people are asserted rather than explained. Some claims, such as hobbies helping people concentrate, could also be developed with a clearer explanation of how this happens. To strengthen the response, extend the examples and show more specifically how hobbies benefit people at different life stages.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your view. Signposting such as “First of all,” “Another reason,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. This is a coherent arrangement, though some linking and referencing are mechanical or unclear. For instance, the second paragraph shifts between “Individuals,” “you,” and “them,” making it harder to track whose experience is being discussed. The first body paragraph also moves from children to other age groups without a developed transition. Keep the point of view consistent and use links that show the relationship between ideas, rather than relying mainly on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “mitigate,” “pursue,” “concentrate,” and “interact.” However, the range is limited by repeated use of “hobby,” “people,” and “work,” and several word-choice or collocation errors make the expression less natural. Examples include “relax their minds,” “follow their hobby,” and “improve your work.” There are also spelling errors such as “thier” and “Individuals” being capitalised mid-sentence. These do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they reduce precision and control. Build a wider set of natural phrases for describing leisure, stress relief, and social participation, and proofread spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional clauses (“if children have a hobby”) and relative clauses (“classes in which they could meet people”). The overall meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain across the response. For example, “more focus on their study” lacks a correctly formed verb phrase, “people who has” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “you would not feeling bored” uses an incorrect verb form. There are also article and number errors in “an art classes.” Work on agreement, verb patterns after modal verbs, and singular/plural forms. More accurate control of these structures would make your ideas easier to read while preserving the variety you already attempt.
