Student answer (Band 5.5)

Sometimes hobby can turn into a talent which is unrecognisable. It is crucial for chilrens, youth, working people and the retired people should have at least one hobby. I believe that just having one single hobby can make a person feel special and happy at the same time. In the upcoming paragrapghs I will explain why is it necessary for an individual to have at least one hobby.

According to me, for some people hobby is such a great skill that eventually becomes a career for them. It helps the person to express their emotions, to enjoy what they actually feel. Different common hobbies like singing, dancing, skating, drawing are helpful for the individuals to feel themselves out of the world. Hobbies are like comfort zone where one can unwind their thoughts and can relax. For example: Lata mangeshkar, an Indian female singer has been known for his great voice since years. In the year 2025 it is reported that she was the only one female singer in india who had got 8 padam vibhushan award in her early years of entering in music industry. She started singing in the kitchen listening to the radio stations as a daily habit which turned into her hobby where her mother recognised her voice and help her out to the indian idols, a platform for singers.

In addition to this, with the advancement of technology half of the population has become handicap. The invention of advanced AI has made drastic change in the lives of people. Now a days people do not have a particular hobby. Due to fast paced life, people are working more than they should where they are not able to give time to enjoy thieir hobbies. for example: Chatgpt an AI tool which is used abundatly by more than 90% of the population which is engaged in enjoying other's people daily hobbies instead of practicing and giving time to their own hobbies.

To conclude, I strongly believe that people should give time to their hobbies in order to be themselves and relax where they feel their comfort zone is.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you believe people of all ages should have a hobby, and you give reasons related to enjoyment, relaxation and the possibility of developing a career. The examples of singing and the effects of technology are relevant to this view. However, the response addresses the topic only partly because the discussion does not consistently explain why having at least one hobby matters to each group named in the prompt. The Lata Mangeshkar example is lengthy and includes claims that are unclear or difficult to connect to your main point, while the technology paragraph shifts towards criticism of AI rather than developing the benefits of hobbies. Explain each reason more directly and use accurate, focused examples to support it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and phrases such as “In addition to this” and “To conclude” signal the stages of the essay. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven: the first body paragraph moves from hobbies as emotional expression to a biographical account, then to a platform for singers, without clearly linking each step. The second paragraph shifts from technology to people’s work schedules and then to ChatGPT, so the central line of argument becomes difficult to follow. Some linking phrases are also formulaic, and references such as “it” and “where” do not always make the relationship between ideas clear. Organise each paragraph around one reason and connect the example explicitly to that reason.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “express their emotions,” “unwind,” “advancement of technology” and “fast-paced life.” These choices show an effort to discuss both personal benefits and modern pressures. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the intended meaning unclear: “a talent which is unrecognisable,” “feel themselves out of the world,” and “engaged in enjoying other's people daily hobbies” are examples. Spelling and word forms also need closer attention, including “chilrens,” “paragrapghs,” “abundatly” and “handicap” where “dependent” may be intended. Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships and checking spelling and meaning before using less familiar expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “where” and “which,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentences contain errors that make the relationships between ideas difficult to understand. For example, “It is crucial for chilrens, youth, working people and the retired people should have” combines two sentence patterns; write “It is crucial for … to have” or “... should have.” In “I will explain why is it necessary,” use statement word order after “why”: “why it is necessary.” There are also recurring problems with articles, agreement and verb forms, as in “hobby can turn,” “her mother recognised her voice and help her out,” and “people do not have a particular hobby.” Practise accurate clause construction and proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
