Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that hobbies are important, and you give relevant reasons, including keeping people occupied, supporting health, and potentially earning money. The examples of your child’s drawing and young people selling crafts help connect the ideas to real situations. However, several points are asserted rather than explained—for instance, the link between hobbies and avoiding “bad things or friendship” is unclear, and the benefits of gardening could be developed more precisely. The response also does not meet the 250-word minimum: it contains 226 words, and the 10 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Add a fuller explanation and a further relevant example to address the task more completely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response follows a broadly understandable sequence: it states agreement, discusses drawing and gardening, then moves to hobbies as a source of income. Examples such as “my child” and “Art and craft” give the reader some signposts. However, ideas are mostly presented in one long block rather than organised into clear paragraphs, and the progression between points is sometimes difficult to follow. For example, the move from gardening and fresh produce to frozen food and disease prevention is abrupt, while “So these kind of hobby” does not clearly refer to one specific idea. Use separate paragraphs for distinct benefits and connect each example explicitly to the main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a basic range of topic vocabulary, including “hobby,” “gardening,” “planting trees,” “fresh air,” and “earn some money,” which makes your main ideas understandable. There are also attempts to express more specific concepts, such as “organic fruits and vegetables” and “home decorative items.” However, vocabulary is repetitive and several word choices or spellings make parts difficult to interpret, including “wall paint hobby,” “became celebraties,” and “in viseversa.” Some phrases are not natural in context, such as “busy day in life” and “good for health and excercise to body.” Build a wider set of accurate collocations for describing benefits, skills, wellbeing, and income.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Most sentences use simple structures, and the reader can generally identify your intended meaning. You also attempt to link ideas with clauses, as in “whenever they have free time use to do their hobby,” but this construction is incomplete and difficult to follow. Errors in verb forms and agreement occur frequently: “it help” should be “it helps,” “my child have” should be “my child has,” and “he use to do” should be “he does.” Articles and plurals also need attention, as in “a hobby” and “retired people.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are inconsistent, with several ideas joined into long sentences. Practise accurate simple sentences before combining them.
