Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely debated topic if people of all ages should have at least one hobby. I strongly agree that it is cruicial for everyone to have a hobby in their life. Hobbies can divert people's mind from everyday's activities and can be proved to be theraputic people.

To begin with, hobbies improve physical and mental health. Engaging in physical hobbies help regulating blood pressure, improve fitness, and protect from chronical diseases. To illustrate this, people with hobbies like jogging, walking, gyming, and sports have more stamina and lower chance of having illenss. Moreover, It boosts cognitive functions such as memory, attention, and focus. As a result, having a hobby is signifcant for overall well-being.

Futhermore, hobbies can be advanatgeous for all age groups. While it encourages children to learn new skills, having hobbies also help retired people in mobility and self dependence. In addition, doing tiny activities can make retired people more confident and independent. It helps them contiune moving and are accompanies by the fellow mates which can reduce isolation. For example, solving puzzles and simple craft can be played in groups and these activities can bring happiness to older people. Hence, hobbies play a signifacnt role in children, workers, and retired people and also good for their physical health.

In the conclusion, physical hobbies reduce the risks of chronic diseases. It also improves mental health. Having a single hobby can be benficial to all age groups. Therefore, people should have at least one hobby in their lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that everyone should have a hobby, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons, including physical and mental health benefits and the value of hobbies for children and retired people. Examples such as jogging, puzzles and crafts help make the discussion concrete. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: the benefits for working people receive little attention, and the claim that hobbies improve cognitive functions is not illustrated. The discussion of older people also repeats the ideas of confidence and independence without developing how hobbies produce these outcomes. Extending these points and addressing each age group more evenly would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas progress from general health benefits to benefits for different age groups, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “In addition” help readers follow the argument. This organisation is effective, though some linking is mechanical and a few connections are unclear. For example, “It helps them continue moving and are accompanied by the fellow mates” shifts awkwardly between the subject and verb, making the relationship between the ideas harder to follow. The final sentence of the second body paragraph also repeats the point about physical health. Use clearer referencing and vary transitions, while ensuring each sentence develops the paragraph’s main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “cognitive functions,” “overall well-being,” “isolation” and “self dependence,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “lower chance” and “physical hobbies,” but some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural. Examples include “divert people’s mind,” “therapeutic people,” “gyming” and “can be played in groups.” Spelling errors such as “cruicial,” “chronical” and “signifcant” are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim to use familiar collocations precisely and check spelling carefully; this will make your meaning smoother without requiring more complicated words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “While it encourages children…” and a result clause introduced by “As a result.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “Engaging in physical hobbies help” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “having hobbies also help retired people” has the same issue. In “It helps them continue moving and are accompanied,” the verbs do not agree with the subject, and the sentence structure is incomplete. There are also problems with articles and sentence boundaries, such as “It is widely debated topic.” Practise checking agreement and making sure each clause has a clear subject and matching verb.
