Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is a common phenomenon that people should have a hobby which helps in various ways and shape an individual lifestyle. I srongly believe having hobby is great ways to entertain yourself while being busy with everyday's business. Holding a passion for something is often recommended by professionals as this gives an opportunity to revive innerself and helps to derail offtrack.

In this bustling life everyone's hands are full with responsibilities ranging from family to occupational. While handling all those people become mentally tired and hobby could be a great stress reliever. It is human nature that dealing with loved things ease out mental pressure rather than adding up and gives a feeling of independance. I have seen the same practice of in my family like my grandfather had a hobby of gardening and petting birds. During his last days, he devoted himself in cultivating vegetables and feeding birds which helped him to know thyself and he used to encourage us doing so after school.

Holding passion also helps individual to keep engaged as the proverb says lazy mind is a devil's house. People with hobby find themselves occupied with their beloved activities rather than spending time here and there which helps to uphold social values and a peaceful environment compared to those without hobby and being engaged with unsocial actitivies. Generally, psychiatrist try to find the passion of an individual to get them on track while treatment as by default human brains loves to do things that they have passion for.

To conclude, I am a strong believer of holding hobby as it provides a meaning to life depeding on the lifespan of an individual is. It gives a fun time to children which builds their bonding with others, while gives pleasure to adults and work as a stress reliever to working class and a meaningfull timepass to elders.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you strongly support hobbies, and you explain their value for wellbeing, purposeful activity and different age groups. The family example of your grandfather gardening and feeding birds gives the argument a relevant personal illustration. These points address the prompt and are extended with reasons rather than simply listed. To make the discussion more fully developed, explain more precisely how hobbies benefit children and working adults; these groups appear mainly in the conclusion, while the body focuses on general stress relief and your grandfather. The claim that hobbies help people avoid “unsocial activities” is also broad and would be stronger with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs develop benefits, and the conclusion returns to the main position. Ideas generally progress from stress relief to purposeful engagement, and phrases such as “While handling all those” and “To conclude” help signal relationships. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Holding passion also helps individual to keep engaged” repeats the opening idea without a smooth transition, and “which helps to uphold social values” has an unclear reference. The conclusion introduces age-specific benefits that are not developed in the body. Clearer links between claims and examples, plus more consistent development across paragraphs, would strengthen cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “stress reliever,” “responsibilities,” “cultivating vegetables” and “occupational,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. However, noticeable errors in spelling, word form and collocation limit precision and sometimes make phrases difficult to interpret. Examples include “innerself,” “independance,” “actitivies,” “meaningfull” and “timepass.” Expressions such as “everyday’s business,” “derail offtrack” and “lazy mind is a devil’s house” are awkward or not well integrated into the argument. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than elevated-sounding phrases, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you express your ideas without relying on broad or unclear wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more extended sentence forms, including clauses beginning “While” and “which,” and your meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in sentence structure, articles, agreement and verb forms occur across the response, and complex sentences are not consistently controlled. For example, “having hobby is great ways” has problems with the article and agreement, while “everyone’s hands are full with responsibilities” is followed by the unclear construction “While handling all those people become mentally tired.” In “psychiatrist try,” the subject and verb do not agree, and “a meaningfull timepass” also shows an article issue. Practise building complex sentences around one clear main clause, then check articles, singular/plural forms and subject–verb agreement.
