Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is indeed true that, everyone in the world have at least one hobby that makes people relax from their monotonous life. In my opinion, there are several advantages of pursuing hobby, regardless of age. This essay will discuss the reasons and examples in the following paragraphs.

The primary reason to have extra curricular activities is, it divert our mind from the regular routine. This is mainly because young professionals and college leaners are engaged whole day in their work, which creates more stress. If they allocate couple of hours for playing outdoors games or reading a book, they may feel better and reduce their stress. For instance, in Canada, many companies allow their employees to participates in many sports game. As a cosequence, they get break from their work without affecting employees profile.

Another benefit is, it gives chance to explore a career, in which they are enough strong in their hobby. This is because of, many workers and young adults are doing different things along with their study and job. Provided that, they allocate more time towards their hobby, they may get opportunities to convert their hobby in to professional career. For example, a shopkeeper worker has a hobby of singing, where they can improve this when he has a free time and can get opportunity to be a singer in the future.

To conclude, the primary factors of pursuing at least one hobby are to get the rid of the monotonous life by reducing the stress level and explore a career in our field of interest apart from academic side.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you support having a hobby at any age, and you give two relevant reasons—relieving stress and potentially developing a career. The examples about employees playing sports and a shopkeeper who sings help connect these points to real situations. However, the response does not fully address the range of people named in the prompt: children and retired people receive little or no specific consideration. The career argument is also less developed than the stress point; the singer example is brief and does not explain what steps could turn the hobby into work. Develop each reason with a fuller explanation and include examples that reflect different age groups to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate benefits, and a conclusion that restates the main ideas. Sequencing phrases such as “The primary reason,” “Another benefit,” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility expected at the next level. However, several links feel mechanical, and some references are unclear—for example, “they” in the singing example could refer to the shopkeeper or another person. The introduction also announces that the essay will discuss reasons and examples, rather than previewing the specific points. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make links between claims and examples more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “monotonous,” “allocate,” “pursuing,” and “professional career.” There are also attempts to use topic-specific language about work, stress, and hobbies. However, the range is limited in places, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “extra curricular activities” for hobbies, “outdoors games,” and “employees profile.” Spelling errors such as “leaners” and “cosequence” are noticeable, while “hobby” and “career” are repeated frequently. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message, but they reduce precision. Build a wider set of natural collocations and check spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “If they allocate a couple of hours…” and “Provided that they allocate more time…”. This gives the response some variety, and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, errors occur across sentence structures and verb forms: “everyone … have” needs subject–verb agreement, “it divert” needs an agreeing verb, and “allow their employees to participates” uses the wrong verb form after “to.” Articles and sentence punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “a hobby” and the comma after “true.” The final example shifts between “a shopkeeper worker,” “they,” and “he,” making the sentence grammatically unstable. Review agreement, infinitives, articles, and consistent pronoun reference, then proofread punctuation.
