Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is very important for people from all the age groups to have at least one hobby because hobbies make ones' life interesting. Hobbies can be of any type playing a certain type of game or instrument, reading, writing, anything can be a hobby.
Sometimes, the things we love to do in our leisure time turns into something which will help us to earn money and be successful in life. For instance, listening music or playing an instrument can help one to become a music producer or a musician. Because one have indulged themselves so much in a hobby that they have expertise in it. There is an Instagram influence Law Roach, who from very young age loved putting up random outfits and designing them as his hobby. As he grew older his hobby got changed into his profession when he got a big opportunity of working as a designer for a famous hollywood star Zendaya.
In addition to this, hobbies help people relax themselves. In old age home, doctors encourage elderly to engage themselves in some kind of activity the like so that they can relax. Parents try to help their children find hobbies like reading, playing sports which will help them in future. Working people or young adults should find something interesting to do as it will be an escape from their stressful and hectic work or school schedules.
To conclude this, everyone should have a hobby of their own. For some a hobby can be merely something which helps them forget their daily like troubles and for some it can be an opportunity to be successful in life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the opening: you believe people of all ages should have a hobby, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons, especially that hobbies can support relaxation and may develop into a career, and the Law Roach example helps illustrate the latter. The response therefore addresses the task, but the reasons are not equally developed. The career example receives specific detail, while the benefits for older people, children and working adults are mostly asserted rather than explained or illustrated. To strengthen the response, develop each main reason with a clearer explanation of how a hobby benefits that group, and make the example’s relevance to your argument explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall shape: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around career opportunities and relaxation, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “For instance,” “In addition to this,” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the argument. This gives the reader a generally logical progression. However, some connections are less smooth: the sentence beginning “Because one have indulged…” is a fragment and interrupts the career example, while the shift from the elderly to parents and then working people in one paragraph feels list-like. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as in “the like.” For stronger progression, connect each example directly to the point it supports and use clearer transitions between age groups.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss hobbies, work and relaxation, including phrases such as “leisure time,” “expertise,” and “stressful and hectic work or school schedules.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the example adds some specificity. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, such as “Instagram influence” and “forget their daily like troubles.” Repetition of “hobby” and “help” also limits flexibility. Aim for more precise expressions and check how words combine naturally; for example, describe a hobby as a “source of relaxation” or say it can “develop into a career.” This would make the argument sound more controlled and appropriately formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use both simple statements and longer sentences with subordinate clauses, as in “Sometimes, the things we love to do in our leisure time turns into something…” This shows some range, and the main message remains understandable. However, some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For example, “things … turns” should use a plural verb, “one have indulged” has incorrect agreement, and “Because one have indulged…” is an incomplete sentence. There are also errors in “listening music” and “from very young age.” Review subject–verb agreement and article use, and check that every sentence has a complete main clause. More accurate control of these patterns would improve clarity.
