Student answer (Band 6.0)

Having a hobby is necessary for all age groups including children, teens, adults, working and retired people. I strongly agree with this opinion. This essay explains why having a hobby, could potentially keep people mentally and physically healthy and releases stress.

People should have at least one hobby, no matter from which age group they belong. Hobbies keep a person mentally fresh. For example, people can enjoy their hobbies in their free time which could benefit them in different ways. Some people like to play physical games as their hobbies. That can help a person staying healthy both mentally and physically. Moreover, hobbies give people a chance to explore their interests. Many people have opted their hobbies as their professions because they were confident that they would never regret their choices.

In this modern era, where life is impossibly fast having a hobby is a blessing. Many people could not find time for themselves. Hobby can help people release stress. For instance, many office going people could not find time to go out with their friends or family members because of hectic routein. These people can enjoy their hobbies after office timings at their home even in week days. For example, if a person has a hobby of reading he can enjoy his hobby after office timings which eventually help him relax and release his daily stress.

In conclusion, hobbies are important for people at all ages. Because it can help people staying healthy and could be a fun way to release stress.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the start: you strongly agree that people of all ages should have a hobby, and the essay gives relevant reasons about health, personal interests and stress relief. The examples of physical games and reading after work help connect these reasons to everyday life. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that people turn hobbies into professions is interesting, but you do not show how this supports the importance of having a hobby for everyone. The discussion also focuses mainly on adults in the stress paragraph, while the benefits for children and retired people receive less attention. Develop these groups’ benefits with specific explanations or examples to make the response more evenly supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with distinct reasons, and a conclusion that restates your view. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This organisation is effective, and the paragraphs each have a central focus. To make the flow more polished, reduce repeated references to hobbies and stress, especially in the second body paragraph, where the same point is restated through several sentences. Some connections between claims could also be clearer: the move from exploring interests to choosing a profession would benefit from an explicit explanation of the relationship. More varied referencing and smoother links would strengthen cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “mentally fresh,” “explore their interests,” “hectic,” and “release stress,” so the main ideas are easy to understand. There are also attempts to use topic-specific expressions such as “physical games” and “office timings.” However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, including “opted their hobbies as their professions,” “office going people,” and “hectic routein.” Spelling errors such as “routein” and “week days” also reduce accuracy. Repetition of “hobby” and “stress” limits flexibility. Aim to learn common collocations as complete phrases and choose more precise alternatives, such as “pursued their hobbies professionally” and “people who work in offices.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and some longer structures, including a relative clause in “people who…,” a conditional construction with “if,” and a subordinate clause beginning “because.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “which eventually help him relax” needs subject–verb agreement (“helps”), while “That can help a person staying healthy” requires a different verb pattern (“help a person stay healthy”). The opening also has a punctuation error in “opinion. This essay,” and the final sentence fragment beginning “Because” should be joined to the preceding sentence. Review verb patterns, agreement, and sentence boundaries to improve control while retaining your range of structures.
