Student answer (Band 6.5)
Hobbies are important at every phase of life. This essay agrees with the statement that every individual should have atleast one hobby to keep themselves independent and happy. Firstly, it helps in cognitive and physical development in children and teenagers. Secondly, it helps working proessionals and retired people to spend their leisure time productively and happily.
Knowledge of any art-forms or sports is gained at a very young age nowadays. This broadens their way of thinking and hence, improves their mental and physical health. A child learns and develops many qualities such as being confident and developing ideas by pursuing a leisure activity loved by him. For instance, a teenager palying cricket after school will be fitter and happier than the one not doing any free-time activity. There are many examples of people who are earning money while playing thier favourite sport.
There is no negotiation that retired or working individuals struggle with loneliness and depression. One of the major factor contibuting to this is they do not have any favourite activiteies to do. For example, my mother is retired and feels lonely and anxious because she does not do any activities other than household work. On the other hand my aunt is very active and has joined a " Mandala Art Club" where she learns new art and makes DIY things for house. Not only that but she has also made a couple of new friends, which allows her to be independent of her own happiness.
To conclude, leisure activities are necessary for everyone to stay happy, healthy and in some circumstances it colud also turn out to be a way of earning money.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that everyone should have a hobby, and the conclusion restates the benefits of happiness and health. You address both younger people and adults, supporting these points with examples such as the teenager playing cricket and your mother and aunt. The personal example makes the discussion relevant, and the reasons are generally extended rather than merely listed. However, some claims are broad or not fully explained—for example, the link between hobbies and earning money is mentioned without showing how commonly this applies or developing the point. Explain more precisely how hobbies benefit each age group, and connect each example directly to your argument, to make the support more consistently convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs discuss different age groups, and a conclusion summarises your position. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “For instance,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. Within the examples, the contrast between your mother and aunt also gives the second body paragraph a logical shape. At times, however, the linking is somewhat formulaic, and some references are not fully clear: “This” in “This broadens their way of thinking” could refer more explicitly to learning art or sport. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make pronoun references precise to strengthen the flow between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “cognitive and physical development,” “leisure activity,” “loneliness and depression,” and “independent.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the examples are easy to understand. There are also some inaccurate or awkward forms and collocations, such as “Knowledge of any art-forms or sports is gained,” “independent of her own happiness,” and “one of the major factor.” Spelling slips—including “proessionals,” “palying,” “thier,” and “contibuting”—also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural phrasing, such as “developing skills in an art or sport” and “take responsibility for her own happiness,” and proofread carefully for spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “a leisure activity loved by him” and the paired structure “Not only that but she has also made…”. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the errors do not generally prevent understanding. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain, however. For example, “One of the major factor” needs plural agreement (“factors”), while “a teenager … will be fitter … than the one not doing” has an awkward comparison structure. The sentence beginning “Knowledge … is gained” also shifts into “This broadens their…” without a clear grammatical reference. Review agreement, comparisons, and sentence links, while continuing to use varied structures.
