Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you believe everyone should have a hobby, and you develop reading as your main example. You also connect books with children, adults and retired people, which responds to the age groups in the prompt. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The benefits of reading are mostly asserted—for example, that it provides knowledge, supports conversation and offers companionship—without specific explanations or examples showing how these benefits work. The focus also narrows quickly to reading, so the response says little about why hobbies more generally matter to people at different life stages. To strengthen the response, explain two or three benefits in depth and support them with a concrete example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable line of thought: it introduces hobbies, focuses on reading, and moves through childhood, adulthood and retirement before restating the opinion. This gives the reader some organisation. However, nearly all ideas are placed in one continuous block, and the long sequence of clauses makes the progression difficult to follow. Connections such as “because” and “so” are repeated, while transitions between age groups are not clearly signposted. Some points also recur, particularly the claims that books provide information and help people spend time. Use separate paragraphs for your position, supporting reasons and conclusion, and organise each reason with clear topic sentences and more varied linking.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a relevant set of words connected with the topic, including “hobby,” “knowledge,” “retirement,” “peace of mind” and “companionship” (expressed as books becoming a friend). These choices make your central message understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “a habit that can never waste your time,” “updated with the time,” and “gathering and delivering words.” Repeated use of “good,” “time” and “different” also limits precision. Spelling errors such as “differnt,” “habbit” and “inforation” further affect clarity. Build a more precise vocabulary for benefits and life stages, and check spelling and collocations when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas using subordinate clauses and reasons, for example, “because it can give you knowledge” and “when we have a lot of mood swings.” This shows an effort to write beyond short, simple sentences. However, many sentences are run together, and errors in verb forms, agreement and sentence construction frequently make the meaning harder to follow. Examples include “hobbies that can changes,” “you can updated,” and “books played a vital role as its became a friend.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, with the response written almost entirely in capitals and several clauses joined without full stops. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them carefully using conjunctions and correct subject–verb forms.
