Student answer (Band 5.5)

Hobbies and interests play a pivotal role in shaping one's life. However, people think that having at least one hobby is significant for children, youth, working individuals and the retired ones. I certainly believe that having hobby is imperative.

It is an irrefutable fact that having hobbies and interests would broaden the pragmatic approach to get away from boredom routine. Interests would bring a sense of purpose of living. For instance, the retired people is free and hence they are bored but interest in playing chase or cards would help them unwind and develop or strengthen their new skills. Additionally, individuals suffer homesickness. staying active keeps mind sharp and supports physical mobility. gardening, or crafts to the pertinent develops a new way to consistently spend hours without

Hobbies among children would help to boost the confidence and helps in developing cognitive skills for instance drawing painting would help them broaden their imagnation. Hobbies and interests would help them reduce stress. after hectic school and tution classes. playing football or cricket would rejunvenate. For adults even joining the social community club develop interests in social interaction rather then spending time in digital spaces.

To the nutshell, life would feel more colorful with the hobbies and interests rather then following the daily work routine or school routine. Hobbies would definately helpin boosting learning and inculcating new habits which builds growth across every stage of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you believe everyone should have a hobby, and you give relevant reasons such as reducing boredom, supporting older people’s wellbeing, and helping children develop confidence and creativity. These examples show an attempt to address different age groups. However, the discussion is only partly developed: the point about working adults is brief, and some claims—such as hobbies giving “a sense of purpose of living”—are not explained with a specific example. The paragraph about retired people also becomes difficult to follow, so its supporting ideas are not fully clear. The response is 17 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your reasons. Extend each main point with a clear explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, paragraphs discussing older people and children/adults, and a concluding statement. This gives the reader a basic sense of organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and some connections are unclear. For example, “Additionally, individuals suffer homesickness” appears without a clear link to the discussion of retired people, while the following sentence shifts to staying active. The unfinished phrase “gardening, or crafts to the pertinent develops…” interrupts the flow. Linking expressions such as “For instance” and “Additionally” are used, but they do not always make the relationship between ideas clear. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, then explain it and give a relevant example; use transitions that accurately show how the ideas relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “pivotal,” “broaden,” “cognitive skills,” “rejuvenate,” and “social interaction.” This shows an effort to use language beyond basic terms. However, several choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, and spelling errors are noticeable: “imagnation,” “rejunvenate,” and “definately.” Phrases such as “boredom routine,” “purpose of living,” and “to the pertinent” make some meanings difficult to understand. The repeated use of “hobbies and interests” also limits variety. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe hobbies as helping people “break the monotony of daily life” and say that an activity can “give them a sense of purpose.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “however,” “for instance,” and “hence.” Nevertheless, errors occur frequently and sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “having hobby is imperative” (missing an article), “the retired people is free” (subject–verb agreement), and “Hobbies … would help to boost … and helps” (inconsistent verb form). Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable: “homesickness. staying active” begins a sentence with a lowercase letter, and the paragraph contains an incomplete construction ending “without.” Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, consistent agreement, and a complete ending. Shorter, accurately punctuated sentences would improve clarity while you build control of complex forms.
