Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this fast-paced era, people do a number of activities in their day-to-day lives. To get relaxation from their hectic schedule, they do some type of things as hobbies. Nowadays, it is essential for kids, young generation, workers and elder people to have one hobby. I will shed light on this prospect in the following paragraphs with my perspective before coming to any conclusion.

To commence with, there are a lot of reasons why people have a hobby in their lives. First and foremost is that it helps to reduce the screen time of children. If children have a hobby like drawing, painting, story writing and so on. Then, they spend less time in front of a screen because they spend their time doing these things in their leisure time. Secondly, it is crucial for youth also. The young ones who have a particular hobby in their life get success in their life if they do their hobby with passion and hard work. There are some famous celebrities who started their work as a hobby and then got success due to their hard work, passion, and dedication. So, the younger generation needs to have a hobby.

Furthermore, workers have a lot of stress from their daily work. Thanks to this, they need to have a hobby which helps them to get relaxation from their hectic schedule and refresh them physically and mentally. Like some individuals play sports in the evening with their friends to get some refreshment from their busy hours. Last but not least, grey-haired people get bored at home, because they are not able to do work at that age, and they feel stressed due to this. But if they have a hobby, they are able to spend their time in a good way. They can do many activities as a hobby, such as gardening, painting and many more. These works helps them to spend their time in a good way and they do not feel stressed.

To sum up, doing something with interest is a good way to spend quality time. I think individuals must have at least one hobby in their lives without any age restriction. Because it is a good way to spend their free time and get relaxation from a busy schedule.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that people of all ages should have a hobby, and the conclusion restates this view. You address children, young people, workers and older people, with relevant reasons such as reducing children’s screen time and helping workers relax. This covers the task well. However, some points are more asserted than developed. For example, the claim that young people can “get success” through a hobby would be stronger with a specific example or explanation of how the hobby builds skills or leads to a career. The point about retired people feeling bored is also general. To strengthen the response further, develop each age-group example with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation and make the benefits more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around different age groups, and a conclusion. Ideas progress logically, and signposts such as “First and foremost,” “Furthermore,” and “To sum up” help readers follow the argument. Paragraphing is appropriate, and the discussion moves from children and young people to workers and older people. At times, however, linking feels formulaic, and some references are not fully clear. For instance, “Thanks to this” does not clearly identify the preceding idea, while “These works” refers awkwardly to the activities just listed. Use transitions more selectively and connect each example directly to the point it supports; this would make the progression feel more natural and cohesion more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “hectic schedule,” “dedication,” “refreshment,” and “quality time.” These choices help communicate the benefits of hobbies, and the meaning remains clear throughout. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but some are inaccurate or unnatural: “get relaxation,” “get success,” and “do some type of things” do not collocate naturally. Repetition of “hobby,” “life,” and “good way” also limits flexibility. Aim to learn vocabulary in natural word partnerships and vary repeated phrases—for example, describe hobbies as helping people “unwind” or “pursue an interest.” More precise, natural phrasing would improve the range and control of your vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional clauses such as “If children have a hobby…” and a relative clause in “a hobby which helps them…”. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the reader can follow the argument. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with sentence boundaries, agreement and verb forms. “If children have a hobby… Then, they spend less time…” separates a dependent clause from its main clause; join these parts. “These works helps them” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “they do their hobby” uses an incorrect verb pattern. Review clause punctuation and agreement, and practise common verb patterns. Greater accuracy alongside your existing sentence variety would make the writing more controlled.
