Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modern time, leisure activities play an essential role in developing interests in free time and source of entertainment. It is crucial that people of every age group such as kids, youngsters, working individuals as well as old aged people should have minimum one hobby in their life. I largely agree with this school of thought.

To begin with, one significant reason is that it enhance knowledge of people. This is because having interest in activities during free time not only promotes skills but also develop more learning power by doing recreation activities. To cite an example, reading science books in leisure time provides numerous learning facts about the human body and increase thinking power. As a result, having hobby is beneficial for learning between leisure time.

Apart from this, leisure activites prevent individuals from getting bored as people keep themselves busy while doing favourite works whenever they have time. For instace, in the long term care, most of the elder people has hobby of listening music due to which they spend their entire day without feeling bore alone. Therefore, it is an excellent method to get rid of boredom and enjoy their loneliness.

To conclude, there are ample merits of having recreation activities from children to aged resident because it promotes skills of learning and play vital role in the lives of individuals to utilise free time and convert it into good productivity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you “largely agree” that people of every age should have a hobby, and you give two relevant reasons—learning and avoiding boredom—with examples involving reading and older people listening to music. However, these ideas are only partly developed: the reading example lists possible benefits but does not explain how hobbies help different age groups, while the second example is focused mainly on retired people. The conclusion repeats the benefits rather than extending your reasoning. The response also falls 15 words short of the required minimum, so it needs a little more development as well as additional length. Explain why hobbies matter across the groups named in the prompt and support each reason more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “Apart from this,” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow, and the examples are placed alongside the relevant points. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in connecting ideas. To make the flow more natural, reduce formulaic transitions and clarify links within paragraphs. For instance, “As a result” introduces a conclusion that largely repeats the preceding claim, rather than showing a distinct consequence. The phrase “Therefore” similarly restates the point about boredom. Develop each paragraph through a clearer sequence of claim, explanation, and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including topic-related terms such as “leisure activities,” “essential role,” “recreation,” and “boredom.” There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “convert it into good productivity,” but some choices are unnatural or imprecise and make the reader work to understand the intended meaning. Examples include “developing interests in free time,” “old aged people,” and “enjoy their loneliness.” Spelling errors such as “activites” and “instace” are noticeable, and several ideas rely on repeated words like “hobby” and “activities.” Aim for more natural collocations and precise wording, and proofread spelling so your vocabulary communicates ideas smoothly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a “because” clause and the “not only … but also” construction. These attempts show some range, but errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction recur. For example, “it enhance knowledge” needs subject–verb agreement, and “one significant reason is that it enhance” also requires a consistent grammatical pattern. In “most of the elder people has hobby,” the verb and noun phrase are not correctly formed. The opening sentence, “leisure activities play an essential role in developing interests in free time and source of entertainment,” is also structurally unclear. Work on accurate agreement and complete, well-formed clauses; then check articles and plurals. Greater control of these patterns will make your complex sentences easier to follow.
