Student answer (Band 5.5)
I do think its important for everyone no matter what age group should a hobby somthing that takes thier mind off of stress and makes them feel calmer . For childrens hobby is a way to explore what they love , try out new things and learn more and young age. This simulates thier solving skills. As of for young adults and teens having a hobby might make them waste thier time from studies but its good distraction from acedamic stress and problems. Same for working people having a hobby is such a boon for adults ; they have finance to support thier hobby and if it makes them happy and guves a good distractions from work stress it will make them more happier. Having atleast one hobby as an adult reduces screen time and makes them happier, adults who have no hobby and watch a movie or a podcast in thier free time ttend to be more sad and bored all the day since there is nothing that makes them feel calmer and happier. This is way parents should encorage thier child to atleast have one haobby that dosent include sitting in front of a screen. As for retired age group hobby is a great way to spend your whole day cooking , gardening , coloring or even just playing board games will keep thier brain working and keep them mentally and phically strong and healthy. Thus having alteast one hobby your whole life that makes you feel calmer and happier is great for your mental and physical health. Having no hobby can make your whole life boring as its just study , work and earn which is not what a ideal life style should be

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the opening: you believe everyone should have a hobby, and you return to its benefits for children, young adults, workers and retired people. The examples—children exploring interests, adults relieving work stress, and retirees gardening or playing board games—address the different groups in the prompt. This meets the task well, and the discussion shows some development beyond simply stating an opinion. However, several claims are asserted rather than explained, such as the idea that adults without hobbies are “more sad and bored all the day.” The point about hobbies potentially taking young adults’ time from study is also introduced but not explored. Develop these ideas with clearer reasoning or a specific example to make the support more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response follows a generally understandable sequence, moving from children to young adults, working people and retirees before concluding that hobbies benefit health. This age-based structure helps the reader follow your main argument. However, the ideas are presented as one continuous block, so the shifts between groups and the conclusion are not clearly signposted through paragraphing. Linking phrases such as “As of for” and “Same for” are awkward, while repeated use of “and” and “having a hobby” makes the connections feel mechanical. Organise the response into an introduction, grouped body paragraphs and a conclusion, and use clearer transitions such as “For young adults” or “Similarly, retired people can benefit.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “academic stress,” “distraction,” “screen time,” and “mentally and physically strong,” and you attempt some less common expressions such as “a boon.” These choices help communicate your main ideas. However, the range is limited by repeated words such as “hobby,” “happy” and “calmer,” and some phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, including “waste their time from studies,” “a good distractions,” and “more happier.” Spelling errors such as “encorage,” “phically” and “alteast” also make the writing less polished. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully; varying repeated vocabulary will make the argument clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences that connect reasons and examples, so there is some variety in structure. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but control is inconsistent: several sentences contain faulty constructions or agreement, including “everyone no matter what age group should a hobby” and “having a hobby is such a boon for adults; they have finance.” Other examples include “This simulates their solving skills” and “Having no hobby can make your whole life boring as its just study, work and earn.” Punctuation is also unreliable, with long sentences joined by commas and spaces before punctuation. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and dividing long ideas into complete sentences before adding more complex clauses.
