Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you consider hobbies important, and you give relevant reasons for children, young adults, working people and retired people. Examples such as your nephew playing with toys and young people developing singing into a career help make the response personal. However, some points are more fully addressed than others. The benefits for children and retired people receive examples, while the claims about working people and young adults are less developed; the career example would be stronger if you explained how a hobby can build skills or lead to work. The brief reference to possible negatives in the conclusion is not explained. Develop each main reason with a clear explanation and a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a main discussion and a conclusion, and the ideas generally move from one age group to another. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “Moreover” and “Furthermore” help signal additions. However, the progression within the long body paragraph is sometimes mechanical: several age groups and benefits are joined together without clear separation, and “First and foremost” is followed by a broad point rather than a distinct, developed argument. Some connections are also unclear, particularly the shift from retired people’s reading to young adults’ career choices. Use separate paragraphs for related age groups or reasons, and make each paragraph’s central point explicit. Check punctuation around transitions so the links read smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “free time,” “physical health,” “mental health,” “life experience” and “passion.” There are also attempts at less common or formal wording, such as “multifarious” and “satisfaction.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and sometimes make the meaning less clear: “feel get board,” “spend good quality of time,” and “choose it in as a success.” Spelling and word-form errors, including “happieness,” “memoty” and “carrer,” are noticeable. Aim for accurate, natural collocations rather than unusually formal words, and proofread spelling. For example, “feel bored after work” and “spend quality time on a hobby” would express your ideas more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast structure in “It is not only good for physical health but also beneficial for mental health” and clauses introduced by “because” and “when.” However, control is uneven, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “my nephew always playing,” “now he have,” and “having a one hobby”; these should be “my nephew is always playing,” “now he has,” and “having a hobby.” Some sentences also combine several ideas without clear grammatical boundaries, as in the opening of the second paragraph. Practise building accurate sentences first, then extend them with one subordinate clause. Careful editing for punctuation and sentence boundaries would also improve readability.
