Student answer (Band 5.5)

Vitality of wellness is the most important thing for everyone including children, young adults and for working people. It is achived with the help of an activity which keeps you fit and healthy and gives peace of mind. I strongly agree with the idea that at least one hobby is necessary. Hobby is necessary for every individual including matriarch and patriarch.

I m putting some examples in support of why I agree that hobby is necessary. Hobby makes you fit and healthy. You take out time out of your busy work schedule and other house or office chore's. By giving some time to your hobby makes you relax and you feel new energy in doing your daily routine of task's. When I was in my university level education, I use to play football. Before playing this game, my weight was about 78kg but after chosing football as my hobby and practicing it for long, it not only reduce my weight but also increases my mental and physical health and bring out wellness as well.

As far as advantages is concern there are also negative things of having a hobby. For children, they spend long time in their hobby and thats affects their studies. One of my brother used to play cricket a lot. It was his hobby and it distract him from his school education and he was expelled from his 9th class. So, sometimes, a hobby become disaster for one's life.

By looking into pro's and con's of having hobby, I would say a hobby in life of children, adults and working people is indispensable because it is beneficial and brings rejuvenation. Hobby bring about holistic developement. It is leisure activity that switch off hectic daily routine.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you strongly support having a hobby, and you give relevant reasons about health, relaxation and personal development. The football example adds useful personal support, while the story about your brother acknowledges a possible disadvantage. However, the response only partly develops the task: the negative example is presented as a hobby becoming a “disaster,” but you do not explain how this risk could be managed or distinguish excessive time spent on an activity from having a hobby itself. The prompt also names retired people, but your discussion does not specifically address them. Develop the examples further and connect each one more directly to your overall opinion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from your opinion to supporting examples, a counterpoint and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and phrases such as “As far as advantages is concern” and “By looking into pro's and con's” signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the opening moves from wellness to fitness and then to the need for hobbies without a smooth explanation. Some links are mechanical or inaccurate, and the conclusion repeats earlier claims rather than drawing the arguments together. Use clearer topic sentences and make the relationship between each example and your main point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “busy work schedule,” “mental and physical health,” “rejuvenation” and “holistic development.” These choices show an effort to express ideas beyond basic vocabulary. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “Vitality of wellness,” “matriarch and patriarch” for people generally, and “switch off hectic daily routine.” Spelling and word-form errors, including “achived,” “chosing” and “developement,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural, precise phrases and check spelling carefully; using simpler wording accurately is more effective than choosing an ambitious expression that does not fit the meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a contrast introduced by “As far as…” and a conditional idea about hobbies affecting children’s studies. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “By giving some time to your hobby makes you relax,” where the sentence structure is incomplete, and “it not only reduce my weight but also increases,” where the verb forms do not agree. There are also problems with articles, plurals and punctuation, as in “a hobby become disaster” and “task's.” Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences before adding longer clauses, and check agreement and sentence boundaries.
