Student answer (Band 6.0)

Hobby plays a vital role in people's lives regardless of their age and it is important for everyone to pursue at least one hobby. In my opinion, engaging in a hobby has any advantages for children, young adults, working people and the seniors.

The major benefit is that people can maintain a healthy mind and body by pursuing a hobby. Most of the people either young adults or working professionals, have to spend the majority of their time at work or study that causes fatigue, burnout and stress. Engaging in different kinds of hobbies like painting, yoga, listening to music, games, and gym helps them to disconnect from work and relax their mind and body in a way they like.

Personal growth is another advantage of pursuing at least one hobby. When people go outside and meet others who have the same interest, it helps them to build a new friend circle which not only encourages them about their passion but they may learn new ideas or skills form others. Moreover, people can change their passion into a profession that can be a source of income for them while following their hobby. For example, people who do gym as a hobby, can become personal trainers that allow them to make some money along with passion.

Personally, I believe, people of any age should have a hobby that helps them to express their emotions with the help of art, music, and dance. Children and young people can find their interest with the help of it and sometimes if they may not be intelligent in studies, they can choose their hobby as a career and become successful in life.

In conclusion, pursuing a hobby has inevitable advantages for everyone. In my opinion, people should make time for their hobby everyday that helps them to maintain their mind and body fit and make life better.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that people of all ages should have a hobby, and you give relevant reasons, including wellbeing, social connections, personal growth, and possible income. The examples of meeting people with shared interests and becoming a personal trainer help make the discussion concrete. However, the age groups in the prompt are not all explored equally: children and young people receive some attention, while the retired are mentioned only generally, and the benefits for working people are more developed than those for other groups. The point about choosing a hobby as a career is also asserted rather than explained in detail. Develop these less-covered groups and extend examples to make the support more balanced. The response meets the stated length requirement; eight words copied from the prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present benefits, and a conclusion restates your position. The progression from health to personal growth is easy to follow, and signposts such as “The major benefit,” “another advantage,” and “In conclusion” help readers navigate the argument. This already gives the essay a coherent structure. To make the links more flexible and precise, avoid relying mainly on formulaic transitions and clarify references where the subject shifts. For example, “it helps them to build a new friend circle” follows a sentence about meeting others, so “this interaction” would make the reference clearer. You could also connect the final paragraph more explicitly to the earlier points rather than introducing emotional expression as a new benefit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “fatigue,” “burnout,” “passion,” “express their emotions,” and “source of income.” These choices help communicate several distinct benefits, and the meaning remains clear. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “has any advantages” does not express your intended positive claim, “form others” appears to be a spelling error, and “make a new friend circle” is not a natural collocation. “Inevitable advantages” is also stronger and less suitable than the context requires. Aim for more natural collocations and check word forms and spelling; this will make your ideas sound more fluent without requiring unusually advanced vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “that,” “which,” and “while,” and most of the argument is understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in agreement, verb patterns, and sentence construction. For example, “Most of the people … have to spend … that causes” has an unclear relative clause and mismatched agreement; “helps them to disconnect … and relax their mind” shifts awkwardly between plural and singular reference. The sentence beginning “Children and young people can find their interest … and sometimes if they may not be intelligent” is also difficult to control because of its conditional structure. Review subject–verb agreement, pronoun consistency, and how clauses are joined. More accurate complex sentences would strengthen the range you are already attempting.
