Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that every individual irrespective of their ages, should have atleast one hobby. While I agree on that part. Hobby plays a very crucial role in individuals overall personality and if an individual opt a good hobby, it will help to shape them as a good human being.

On the one hand, individual should ideally select a hobby and persue it as a career. Now a days, social media plays a vital role in finalising the hobby because it open a wide range to opportunities. For example, now a days old age people are more inclined towards fitness. Recently, a 82 years old lady completed a full marathon and pursue her hoby. She opted a good hobby due to which, she is fit, health and it also helps to improve is mental well-being. However, we all know in that age individulas loosen hope for their living.

On the other hand, if an individaul will not choose a correct hobby, it will lead to a disaster in their life. Now a days, most of the people misinterpret hobby with their careless behaviour along with the societies standards. They thought that having late night parties, spending a lot of money on expensive cloths are the hobbies and feel stressed after that for earning more and maintain standards according to the society. Therefore, hobby is something an individual enjoyed and feel happy.

In the conclusion, I just want to say that having a hobby in an individuals life is a very good way of living. It will helps them to live a healthy and stress free life. I just want to share a message that don't make hobby a burden, it's an art, fun activity with the help of which an individual can enjoy their life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is generally clear: you agree that people should have a hobby, and you explain possible benefits for health and well-being. The marathon example gives the discussion a relevant illustration. However, the response only partly develops the task. The claim that people should “select a hobby and pursue it as a career” is not clearly connected to the question of simply having a hobby, and the point about social media is left unexplained. The second body paragraph warns against confusing hobbies with costly or careless behaviour, but it does not fully explain what makes a suitable hobby or give a concrete example. Develop each main reason more directly and make sure examples clearly support your opinion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help signal the shift between points, and the conclusion returns to your central view. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the discussion moves from social media to an older marathon runner, then to people losing hope, without explaining the links between these ideas. The contrast between the two body paragraphs is also not fully logical, since the first argues for pursuing a hobby as a career while the second criticises certain activities as hobbies. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to the paragraph’s main point; avoid relying on formulaic transitions alone.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “mental well-being,” “stress-free life” and “standards according to the society.” These phrases show an attempt to discuss both the benefits and possible pressures associated with hobbies. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which can make meaning less clear. For example, “finalising the hobby” does not naturally express choosing one, and “loosen hope for their living” is difficult to understand. There are also spelling errors such as “persue,” “hoby” and “individaul.” Build a more precise vocabulary for describing leisure activities and their effects, and check spelling and natural word combinations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if an individual opt a good hobby, it will help to shape them” and a contrast introduced by “While.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “if an individual opt” and “It will helps,” where the verb forms do not agree with the subject, as well as “a 82 years old lady,” where the article and noun phrase are not correctly formed. The opening fragment “While I agree on that part” is also not joined effectively to the preceding sentence. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and complete sentence construction before adding more complex structures.
