Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you agree that people of different ages should have a hobby, and you give relevant examples for children, young adults and retired people. The account of the young wrestler adds personal support and explains how commitment may lead to achievement. However, the age groups are not developed equally: the suggestions for young adults and retired people are brief, and the response focuses heavily on one child’s success. The conclusion, “having the hobby … is a great thing,” repeats your view but does not explain its benefits across the groups. To strengthen the response, develop each age group with a specific reason and example, and explain more carefully how hobbies benefit people beyond fame or competition.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response contains a recognisable progression from your opinion, to suggestions for different age groups, to a personal example and a concluding statement. This helps the reader identify the main topic. However, nearly all the ideas are placed in one long paragraph, and several are joined by repeated forms such as “and” and “after that,” so the relationships between points are not always clear. The shift from general advice to the wrestler’s story also needs a clearer transition. Use separate paragraphs for your position and age-group reasons, the example, and the conclusion. Within them, use linking phrases selectively and make references such as “this kid” or “that” unambiguous.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a range of topic-related words, including “physical activity,” “stamina,” “dedication,” and “state level championships,” which helps communicate your ideas about hobbies and sport. Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, however, and spelling errors are noticeable: for example, “competation,” “recoganise,” “sucessfull,” and “experince.” Phrases such as “having hobby at least once” and “marked his name in first category” are difficult to interpret precisely. These issues sometimes make the reader pause, even though the overall meaning is generally recoverable. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common word partnerships, such as “take up a hobby,” “enter a competition,” and “achieve success.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences that connect reasons and examples, such as the account of the child going to the ground after school. This shows some ability to extend ideas, but sentence boundaries and punctuation are not controlled consistently, and many clauses run together. There are also errors in articles, agreement and verb forms, as in “the child should not only focus,” “he was selected … which directly take hims,” and “when he win.” These sometimes make the timeline or relationships between ideas unclear. Practise separating complete ideas with full stops, then check subject–verb agreement and keep verb tenses consistent when narrating past events. Use a few accurate complex sentences rather than joining many clauses together.
