Student answer (Band 6.5)
Leisure activities are important in people's lives. Some people believe that people should have at least one hobby. I strongly agree with this viewpoint because a hobby can be a stress-relieving activity, helpful for someone to turn their hobby into a career and provide a sense of satisfaction. I will elaborate with reasons along with the examples in the following paragraphs.
The main reason why individuals should have at least one favourite activity is that it can reduce stress. Many workers usually follow the same routine such as doing jobs and managing their household responsibilities. Their brains get tired. To give a break to their brain they need to divert their mind by doing such activities. For example, many people spend their free time in an artistic way such as writing, reading, listening to music and cooking etc, rejuvenating them to go back to their work energetically. As a result, this not only helps improve their mental well-being but also increases their concentration at work. Similarly, retired person should have a hobby as well because after retirement, they do not have any kinds of schedule to follow. If they occupy themselves, it could be helpful for them for their mind stimulations. It keeps them busy and they can spend their time productively. Therefore, they will experience a sense of satisfaction.
From my perspective, if young adults or children have a hobby, they can build a career from their hobby. For instance, some students do not like academic part, they are more into sports such as football and ice hockey. Initially, they consider these sports for spending their free time after study. However, as they grow old, they make a decision what they want to choose weather to study or persue sport. After deciding some adults take advanced training and develop their careers in such fields.Consequently, they become famous and start earning from their hobby.
In conclusion, focusing on hobbies can be beneficial for children, young adults, working people and retired because these activities decrease stress, are helpful for building a strong future and relaxing activities. Therefore, i strongly agree that everyone should have at least one hobby in their life to enjoy their extra time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you strongly support everyone having a hobby. You address several groups named in the prompt, especially workers, retired people, young adults and children, and give relevant reasons such as stress relief, mental stimulation and possible career development. Examples of creative activities and sports help make the argument concrete. This meets the task well, while the range of support is not equally developed: the career argument focuses mainly on students who pursue sport, and the benefits for children are not explained separately. The claim that hobbies build “a strong future” is also broad. To strengthen the response, explain more fully how hobbies benefit different age groups and develop each example to show how it supports your opinion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around distinct reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “As a result,” and “Consequently” help readers follow the argument. This gives the essay a coherent progression. At times, however, connections feel mechanical or the reference is unclear. For instance, “Similarly” introduces the point about retired people, although it is not quite parallel to the preceding example, and “these activities” in the conclusion refers back broadly to several ideas. Some sentences also run together, as in the example ending “energetically. As a result.” Use paragraph breaks and punctuation consistently, and make transitions express the precise relationship between ideas rather than relying on a sequence of formulaic linkers.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “reduce stress,” “mental well-being,” “concentration,” “advanced training” and “sense of satisfaction.” These choices communicate your main points, and you attempt more specific vocabulary when discussing work, retirement and sport. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “mind stimulations,” “academic part,” “build a career from their hobby” and “strong future” do not express the ideas as naturally as they could. There are also spelling errors in “weather” for “whether” and “persue” for “pursue.” Aim for precise, conventional collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make the argument sound more fluent without requiring more complicated vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including reason clauses (“because a hobby can be…”) and conditional structures (“if they occupy themselves, it could be helpful”). Most meaning remains clear, and you attempt to connect ideas within longer sentences. Some grammatical errors and punctuation slips persist. For example, “retired person should have a hobby” needs an article or plural form, while “they make a decision what they want to choose” needs a clearer clause structure. In “some adults take advanced training and develop their careers in such fields,” the tense shifts from the past narrative to the present. Missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent capitalisation, as in “i,” also affect accuracy. Review articles, clause construction, tense consistency and sentence boundaries, while retaining your varied sentence patterns.
