Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Rajvi,

I hope you are doing well. Recently, your brother told me that you are thinking to take a university course from my university and you asked for my experience.

I was interested in physiotherapy course from childhood. In addition, I chose Calgary; because the University of Calgary was offering one of the best courses at that time.

Furthermore, I have learn various skills from this country. The primary one is how to do multi-tasking. In other words, people are always busy in their personal and professional settings. As a result, they do multiple works at same time in order to complete tasks more quickly.

Apart from this, my year in abroad was best for my studies. Physiotherapy field have many manual techniques and in abroad I have practiced mostly all of them.

I hope you have the same positive experience like me. If you need any other help or advice please do not hesitate to reach out.

Best wishes,

Riya

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you identify Calgary and the University of Calgary, mention learning about people’s busy personal and professional lives, and explain that practising manual techniques supported your physiotherapy studies. The details are relevant, but they are not equally developed. The country-learning point focuses mainly on multitasking and makes a broad claim about people without a specific example. The study benefit is also brief; explaining how practising particular techniques improved your knowledge or confidence would make it clearer. The opening says she is considering taking a course at your university, which changes the task slightly: she is asking about a year abroad as part of her own course. Clarifying that context would make the letter more fully responsive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, separate paragraphs for your experience and learning, and a friendly closing. The sequence is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “In addition,” “Furthermore,” and “As a result” help show relationships between ideas. This meets the lower-band expectation for coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in connecting points. However, several transitions feel mechanical, and “Apart from this” does not clearly signal how the study benefit relates to the previous paragraph. The reference to “this country” is also less clear because Calgary and Canada have not been explicitly connected. Use more natural transitions and make references explicit to strengthen the progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “physiotherapy,” “manual techniques,” and “personal and professional settings.” These terms communicate the subject of your studies and your observations about life abroad. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “multi-tasking,” although the explanation that follows is quite general. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “take a university course from my university,” “multiple works,” and “my year in abroad.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for common, accurate combinations such as “study at the University of Calgary,” “several tasks,” and “my year abroad,” and add vocabulary that describes concrete academic experiences.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a result structure with “As a result.” Most ideas remain understandable, and the errors generally do not obstruct communication. Some grammatical inaccuracies are present, however: “I have learn” should be “I have learned,” “Physiotherapy field have” needs an article and subject–verb agreement, and “at same time” needs “the.” The punctuation around “Calgary; because” is also incorrect, as a semicolon should not separate the clause in this way. Review verb forms, articles, agreement, and punctuation, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
