Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Aden,
I hope you are doing absolutely fantastic, I am beyond thrilled to hear that you are planing to spend a year studying abroad as a part of your university course. As you asked about my experience, so I want to let you know that I had a fabulous experience of studying abroad.
I did my one year of study from Capilano University, which is in Vancouver a beautiful city of Canada. When we travel outside of our country we get to know lot of things, such as different people, different lifestyle and many more things.
Furthermore, while studying in Canada i learned many things about it that how people form different countries come there to get better education. Not only this , but everyone has equal rights does not matter from where they belong to.
Moreover, the year I spent in studying abroad was helpful for me not only in my life but also in further studies also. I got to learn so my advanced chapter that is covered in later studies in our country. And I got to know how assignments can be made online with different resources.
I wish you very good for your studies in abroad.
Your friend

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: the location (Capilano University, Vancouver), observations about the country (multiculturalism and equal rights), and the academic benefits (advanced chapters and online research skills). The tone is appropriate for a friendly letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation of how the year was helpful for studies is quite vague, mentioning 'advanced chapters' without specific detail. To reach a higher band, the ideas should be more fully extended with concrete examples or personal anecdotes that demonstrate the impact of the experience.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific requirement of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Not only this', and 'Moreover' are used to link sentences. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in their application. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally slightly awkward, such as in the phrase 'I did my one year of study from Capilano University', which impacts the flow. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some attempts at more natural expressions like 'beyond thrilled' and 'fabulous experience'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice or awkward phrasing, such as 'I did my one year of study from' (should be 'at') and 'I wish you very good for your studies' (should be 'I wish you the best'). The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including punctuation issues (e.g., 'Not only this , but everyone'), subject-verb agreement, and preposition usage (e.g., 'studying in Canada i learned', 'studies in our country'). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'I got to learn so my advanced chapter'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
